Yeah I was thinking of just doing that but what would I use for the legal serial/key?
If I go into my properties tab under my computer I get this

Would this be my serial/key for the winXP and would I also need an OEM install disc for this to work? thanks for the reply.

Compaq was guilty of that shit too...I don't know if they still do that or not nowaways. I ended up with WinMe on mine, promptly wiped the drive, repartitioned to one drive, and installed Win2k on it. Fuck the garbage progs they throw on there as well dry.gif

they still do

technically installing a retail version that is downloaded but using your key would be legal right
cuz my laptop is compaq and they totally fucked with windows on it.  so if i just use a retail install cd but use my own key it'd be fine right

each retail cd needs its own cd-key. you can't use the key on your computer with a different disc

Question About Winxp

It does have a recovery partion and the key sequence is tapping the F10 key on startup, this boots into recovery mode. The issue is what if this fails or doesnt work for some reason, thats why I asked the question about a backup disc. I dont really have a problem with spending the $15 for the disc. I was just trying to figure out if thier was a way I could do it for free. I can think of plenty other things I can spend the $15 on rather then buying something I already own. I couldnt find the backup disc creation anywhere in my start panel. Thanks to everyone who has tried to help.
