thanks again,.... ive come to the conclusion that i believe it is the mobo (it better be bc i just bought one last night,...) i havent installed it yet, so ill let you know.... but im pretty sure thats wut it is, bc it looked like 3 of the capacitors were blown,(the tops were exploding out... pretty badly....).. i figured mobo's are cheap,... an dmy mobo was a piece of crap anyways so i just went out and got a new mobo with an amd2400+cpu for $110 figured taht was a good deal... i also got new hdd, firewire card, surge protector, and upgraded to 512ddr so this turned out to be more of an upgrade than a fix... anyways,... ill let you know how everything turns out

EDIT: btw, thank you very much ScOrPiOn-X for that link,.... it doesnt really help with this problem bc i didnt get any beeps or error messages,... but it will definatley come in handy,... i alredy bookmarked it.... i was trying to find a site of that nature, so thank you

I didnt read all the other posts but, take your vid card out and put it back in and do the same with CPU and mem. Any one of the above could have come unseated. If that doesnt work then its a hardware (as in fried) problem and could be the MB,CPU,Mem,Vid Card or Power supply.

You don't think it could be software related??  I will try to reconnect everything like you said,... but i was hoping it was just something with my os... ill be pissed if i fried something after i JUST got it

i tried disconnecting the vid card and the mem then reconnecting them (the cpu is nice and snug on there, i dont think it came unseated) and no difference...

i do have a quick question though,... where do i find out which switch to put my psu to, 115w or 230w.... i cant find it anywhere in the manual for the mobo.... bc when i put it to 230 it says "system boot failure, please insert system disk"... but when it's on 115w it just hangs on the windows Me logo,.... like i said before.

and one more thing,.... this doesnt seem like a good sign at all, but after i turn off my computer, a small red led on the mobo stays on, and the keyboard lights stay on until i fully unplug the power cord from the comp...... any ideas????

edit: typo

it should work with ME tri just updateing the drivers an see if it will run for a few days, if it dose its definatly not the hardware.

if you wave an older version of windows (95, 98) tri that personaly i think me is the worst out of all the MS crap.

PS, you can't have 2 pci video cards, the system won't show anything on either screens, some mobos will beep.

for the most part that is true but some video vards will allow it however both cards have to be the same and support this.

some will show on one screen and disable the other card.

you should go to wal-mart a buy a cheap meter to test the psu. leave the motherboard plug on and put the leads behind the black wire and one to the yellow wire. you should get 12 volts. you have to have something plugged in or the psu won't turn on because it needs a load to operate

This is the Link for the vid card It's actually PCI, i forgot the AGP version of that chip doesnt come with dual display but that one does for some reason (it doesnt say so at the site, but i opened the box at frys and checked it out)....  if you guys know of any good (somewhat cheap) agp dual display cards, lemme know

alright, and ill go check out that psu,... i think i have something like you said alredy.... so we'll see if my psu is up to par then....

ok, i still haven't gotten xp but i got my Me startup disk, and i tried putting that in and it did not help at all,... i put in both the "emergency boot disk" (floppy disk) and the main windows Me software cd and when i start up my computer it still just hangs on the windows Me startup screen,....  is it something else?????  WHAT else could it be? its a brand new mobo, cpu and memory.... im pretty sure i installed everything correctly since it was working.... and it's all pretty self-explanatory,... what could be wrong??
