I want to get SUSE 9 porfessional version. they won't let you download like other distros. and i don't feel like paying $79 for it. my bud has a copy if he burns it for me would that be copyright because i thought linux had no copyright laws

I'm not a lawyer, but this is what I remember:

As long as it's distributed under the GPL, you're good.

As for copyright, the laws are there, but the authors allow you to redistribute/modify it

SUSe 9 is availiable as a free download, so there are no issues with regard to copyright.

GPL "General Public Licence" basically allows you to run the software for free. I think there might be an issue with some of the programs supplied in the distribution (Star Office as one example).

The majority of the cost of spending $79 is the production cost of the CD/DVD package and the Manuals.

SuSE has a strategy.
Buy the new one, download the old.  You can copy it, but they just dont' offer it (gets more people to buy).  It's not a bad idea.  The impatient have to pay.
