In particular a P4, is it any different installing a used cpu over a new one?

There are two distinct "socket" flavors of P4s.... 123 and 178 pin, I believe. Be aware of this.

Otherwise, an older one should work fine in a newer board.

i'm not being an ass or anything because i really don't care.  But i think what he meant was there is a new forum here in X-S for computers, it's right under the general foum

emmm, no

there are 3, and theyre 423, 478, and 487.

athlons XP all just 462 so its simple biggrin.gif

Athlon 64 (discontinued) is 754
Athlon 64 (new) is 939
Athlon 64 Opteron and FX-51 is 940

and IMO no problems with processors long as u dont buy them from a shady place... mite be a prob wid athlons (exposed die) but p4's are shielded

*EDIT* also the older p4's are larger so no they will not work on most newer boards
