Okay here is the deal. I have 1.0Version xbox with a 120Gb HD and a matrix mod chip. I gave it to a friend to use and it worked fine but now the eject button just flashes red. I get a screen telling me that it needs service (no codes on screen) I tried to remove the hd and put the factory one in and removed the mod chip, but samething. I was reading here about the eeprom going dead, but I am not sure how to check it. Any help would be great. Thank you....

if it shows no error code. your kernel is something like 3944 which show no error code. its strange that it shows no code with the chip. what bios are you using? check the cables. also see if the hd is locked.

If it only flashes red, then your buddy screwed up your eeprom. Probably by erasing it all together.

Hopefully, you have a backup of the eeprom, which in that case, try this:

Build the eeprom reader and write your eeprom to the xbox.

Sorry, after looking at the xbox it flashes red for a half sec and then grren.

If it was an eeprom error it would only flash red, and have no audio or video. Kernel 3944 has no error codes so you are going to have to do some testing to find the problem. If you have a solderless adapter, the chip probably moved and isnt making a good connection to the lpc/d0 point. Or your d0 point has come unsoldered. I would check this first, it is probably the problem.

yes it is a solderless adapter, but when I remove the mod chip and put it bck to factory is still does it.

Some guy sells the xbox eprom reader on ebay. I bought one and was able to get 3 xbox's fixed right away. Mine had bad HDD's so I just needed the eeprom.bin file out of the chip on the motherboard. I saved every eeprom file from all my xbox's to cd. Then I was jacking around and tried to write a new eeprom file to the chip on the motherboard and it did it. I guess by changing the eeprom.bin file you can get your box unbanned from XBL?

I built a working EEPROM reader and don't need it anymore. It works with ponyprog and I fixed my dead 1.0 with it. I'll sell it to you for like $10 plus whatever shipping is. Let me know if your interested via e-mail. traxtar944 at hotmail

He doesn't need an eeprom reader, and this is not the BST forum.

If the chip was actually functioning (with a hacked bios) you would be getting an error code, try reseating the chip and see if it will boot normally or with an actual error code. Its likely something simple such as the hdd isnt locked and your chip was just misaligned.
