Pc Games On Dvd...why Dont They Come That Way?
« on: January 19, 2004, 09:52:00 AM »

I want to make copies of the pc games I play regualrly so that I dont loose or damage the originals while traveling... (I play most of my games on a laptop)  But it sux that I have to use like four cd's to copy some games.  Can I just dump all of the files onto one dvd-r and it work or not?

And why dont newer games come on dvd's?  I mean most copmuters come with dvd roms from the factory nad a game on one dvd certainly berats thehell out of a game on four to five cd's.

Not sure about the speed you'll get, but you can:
-Make ISOs of all the CDs
-Burn them all on a DVD-R
-Use Daemon Tools to mount the ISOs from the DVD

You might have to use alcohol 120% or something if the game has copy protection

Some games, you CAN put all the disks on one DVD. Sometimes, you can do just strait copies to the root of what will be your DVD, sometimes you'll have to put a frontend in the root and each 'disc' in its own folder, then use said frontend to launch the autoboot exe of the 'disc' in question, and it should install and play assuming you got the cracks for the games to run on a backup disc.
For instance, for Sims Unleashed, you can simply dump the entire contents of both discs to the root of one, and it'll install said addon without prompting you to switch discs at all. You're able to do this because the install packages (the CAB files) are named differently, instead of each disc having 01.cab (for example), disc one has 01.cab and disc two has 02.cab.

most installers just look for the files on the disc, so you shoul dbe able to burn it all onto one dvd, but i havent tested it to see if it would work(dvds are expensive :/)
