Multiple Monitor Advice Pls
« on: January 14, 2004, 03:47:00 PM »

i have just hooked up two monitors to my system, and have been toying with it to much of my enjoyment

but i find ATI(running a 9800 pro) does not leave much in the way for options when it comes to monitor modes

i want to make each monitor run its own desktop(taskbar, star menu, etc.) but so far that has been a no go

i have tried a few desktop managers that make multiple desktops, but i have not been able to find one that will have one desktop display on monitor 1, and the secodn desktop display on monitor 2....

would any of you guys happen to know some program/method that i may be able to use to remedy this?

I'm not sure two separate desktops is an option...I have yet to see it (of course, all I have is a Radeon 8500 in my desktop and GeForce4 440 Go in my laptop). All I've seen is stretch or mirror...

Ultramon will give you a 2nd taskbar that will shwo the programs that are on teh 2nd monitor, but it wont give you a start button.

yes ultrmon is the best software to run dual, triple monitors..
the ATI hydravision will just extend your desktop.. while ultramon will give you a 2nd taskbar under the 2nd monitor and allow you to control screen savers and wallpapers to each monitor

when i first got my dual set up i thought i could play CS and games on 1 monitor while browsing the web and talking on MSN, ICQ on the next monitor.. this is not the case since direct-X does not support this.. also there is like 3 games out of 200 that actually uses dual monitor support i think 1 is MS flight simulator that allows 1 screen for 3d flyign screen and other for cockpit control readings..

hope they do have a solution or software that allows us to play games and browse web/talk on icq etc on other monitor soon .. otherwise all you really have is a extended monitor..

The reason you cant have 2 start buttons is MS's fault though not ati.
