the mobo also has to support that speed to make use of it, so if you put a 133 hard drive in a 66 xbox, there will be no change i belive cause the mobo is designed to run at 66

and i run an sata drive, i hardly find any difference except when i install windows, when it only takes about 9 mins to install, compared to some 15 mins on my ide 133 drive

that abit mobo has 2 sata 150 slots(with built in raid 0 or 1)

and it also has two ide 133 ports

the ide and sata can be used at the same time, so you can use both a hard drive on ide and sata

cd drives cannot read a cd fast enough to actually make use of sata(i think they can only read at a max of around 6-7 MB/s)

tongue.gif with 2 diff controllers...

SATA does matter but the issue is still dependant on the HDD...

if u install (sorry to mention this, ugh) a seagate (i know) SATA 7200rpm drive it will perform much lower than the Maxtor 7200 IDE drive... pick ur sata carefully! when choosing mine i came across 2 options, hitachi deskstar and WD raptor (10000rpm), and even tho the hitachi was 7200rpm it outdid the raptor in most of the tests, and is 10dB quieter and doesnt need cooling...

if you happen to have a windows 98 boot disk, try booting with that(an i dotn know if the boot disc u format thru xp has this app, can someone pls confirm?)

and tell ti to boot to dos, then type in:
fdisk /mbr

and that will format the boot partition and get rid of your boot loader
