Dvd Rom Problem
« on: March 26, 2007, 11:08:00 PM »

Put a larger hd in my xbox and put all my favorite games on there so i could be lazy. About 20 games later it started reading the discs ALOT slower. Now it cant read any game or movie without skipping or freezing. So i thought, simple i need a new drive. I used the tut on here to replace it with a pc drive as a temporary fix, but it does the same thing. So, am i just unlucky and my xbox just didnt like this drive or is there something else that could be causing this. Unfortunatly i dont have another drive i can try and i cant really afford the $50 for a new drive so i dont want to get one if im not possitive thats the problem.Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

Did you try to use the PC drive to copy an xbox game? If you did, it didnt work because pc drives cant read xbox games.

You're best bet would be to open the drive, and clean the lense and the mirror. One of your dvd's might have had gunk on it, and it flung of at 4x and scored a three-pointer on your lense or mirror, disabling your xbox's ability to read discs.

Tried cleaning it already. And i know about the restrictins with the pc drive, i only tried to watch a movie. Im just baffled because it does the same thing with either type of drive, i even tried a different ide cable and nothing is working. It works for longer period of time with a backup game than with anything else but still messes up.
