http://www.dslreport....com/1068092508

download: 3242 kbps
upload: 365 kbps

NOTICE: the measurments are in kilo BITs not BYTEs so there is a huge difference(i belive it is 7 bits per byte but i am prolly wrong)

but yeah i can get some schweet speeds on this bugger, but my upload sux =/

id debate the moral/legal value of uncapping my modem, but that would lead to the bin real fast

I usually average 3.5 megabit down (420 kb/s) and 1 megabit up (120 kb/s)  biggrin.gif

Multiply megabits by 120 to get kilobytes  beerchug.gif

dermonic savage:
what do you mean by uncapping your modem.  How illegal is that and what exactly would it do?

doh why does everyone mess up my name sad.gif

first of all a quick background

all cable modems within a certain vicinity are all connected to a single large pipe which carries the signal for all thr modems back to the isp

a single modem can use up all available singal strength from this pipe so ISPs assign a maximum transfer rate on every modem to make sure it does not eat up the entire pipe, so thus i can NEVER go beyond my speed of 3/.256 mbps cause that is what the cap is set to

there are soem modems that are bugged and will retrive the cap limit from the ethernet port instead of the coaxial input, which insludes a handful of companies(mostly 3com and surfboard)

the usefulness of un capping allows your modem to use more bandwidth for faster speeds, but almost every ISP does not like this and their reaction to it if they ever discover it(which if you arent careful will very likely happen) will vary from ISP, it could just be a warning, or they could go as far as suing

i have looked into how to do it, but i am still in more or less a struggle as to wether i should risk trying

tell me how i got one dumbASS ISP

its gr8 here though, OWNAGE!

i signed up for a standard 7.2MBPS speedstream DSL connection when the technology first came out and got a free modem (worth over 100 quid, not sure how many dollars)

soon tons of subscribers were flooding in and a firmware update allowed the line to reach speeds of 2.8mbps only sad.gif, however, soon enough i called the ISP and yelled at them, saying something about me paying for a 7.2MBPS connection and that i would take them to court for changing without prior notice to all registrees, soon enough they ran me through how to get my 7.2MBPS connection back and gave me another modem and DSL socket as a settlement, so i hooked up the other modem to the same PC and ran a 10MBPS (7.2 + 2.8) dual line connection, and they can't do shit about it cuz they know i'd still take them to court (i didnt sign anything)
