check the controller port connection. If there is rust or dust and blow it out with compressed air.
then if above fails, try checking the fuses.
The port on a slim should have a fuse. If you were to look for a blown fuse. They usually are signified by PS"number". The "number" is a number. Just use a continuity meter to see if there is a beep. If not then that's blown.
The ps2 rarely has controller port problems. I only had two or three in my days of modding ps2. I've done over 350+ over the years. The controller port were from the fat ps2 too. They can be replaced. But on a slim they can't be replaced. I doubt that sony would mess up on a simple controller port for the slims. The slims are their final design. They must of had it down pat by like the 23+ revisions. hehe.
