Xbox Handheld Coming?-- Posted by XanTium on January 26 15:04 EST
From next-gen.biz:

BusinessWeek reports that Microsoft is kicking around the idea of developing its own handheld games and media player.

Although Microsoft has made no concrete plans to go ahead with the risky venture, sources say that the company has assembled a team to evaluate its feasibility. The device would likely target the huge potential audience that embraces the iPod, although Xbox head Peter Moore said "It can't just be our version" of Apple's player.
Moore also said that Microsoft may use the recognition of the Xbox brand to put some leverage behind this theoretical product. However, as BusinessWeek points out, the brand, which is primarily  related to videogames, may not appeal to a wide variety of consumers as a non-Xbox brand would.

With the XBOX name behind it, this would be very popular, unlike that Gizmondo flop.

Maybe it's going to be named XBP(Xbox Portable), If it can have the same XBL account and you can play Halo 2 on it, I want one.

It would need to be really feature rich, with a better retail price than the iPod.  But, add in a LIVE type service (free for existing LIVE subscribers) for music and video downloads, video capability, large storage capacity, web browser, etc, and it could work.

MS needs to get one word through thier head: functionality

If they produce a handheld, it needs to do everything the PSP does, but better.  None of this "you need a MCE pc" crap.  They need to make it play every damn format of audio and video, browse the net freely with integrated wireless, instant message (without MSN), game with quality graphics and decent resolution, and connect to xbox live.   It needs analog sticks and analog triggers, a big fat scratchproof screen, video output for the tv, a built in TV tuner, and a fully stocked minibar.

what comes to mind is a psp type device only with an internal hard drive
sort of like psp+ipod

the psp aspect of it would of course be composed of a high powered portable gaming system, while the ipod aspect of it would allow users to store music and other media onto its hard drive.

the idea sounds awesome, even more awesome would be if it were powered by windows media center... stream movies and music to your 360

Make it look like the PSP blended with XBOX.

IF they actually Make one, it would have to have a large built in HDD(and can function as a 360 hdd too), XBL functionality, XBOX 360 compatibility, Wireless LAN, Video and Audio download from the PC or XBOX Live, Alot of addons and Popular xbox games ported, and Built in Internet surfing.

I'd love to have a portable Xbox.  So long as it is more powerful than my PDA (I expect it will be, my XDA is only 520mHz)...

An Xbox handheld would have me licking Bill's boots.  Figuratively, of course.  But being able to play Halo on the go... priceless.
