My PS2 for the last say 6 months has been making loud clicking sounds when reading games from time to time. A few days back the clicking became constant and it no longer read the games or DVDs. At first I thought it was the laser but fiddling with it changed nothing and at one stage the issue was temporality fixed and the laser worked fine.
The problem lies with the worm motor used to move the laser up and down the media. the thingy that connected to the laser which contacts with the grooves of the worm motor isn't contacting the worm motor properly. So when the worm motor rotates the thingy basically just vibrates. When I apply some pressure to the thingy to stop it vibrating, it works fine.
Has anyone else had this problem and know an easy way to solve it? If worst comes to worst I'll get creative and rig some funky thing up to make it work.
The PS2 is unmodded. Model: SCPH-50002
