also, didnt they kinda jackd the dual screen feature from the DS?

Not really.  The second screen on the ds actually has a function as a touch screen, on the ps3 its just a display.  Having 2 displays is nothing new, nvidia and ati have been doing it for years, and developers have been doing it even longer.  Most modern, if not all, video cards have support for multiple monitors, and you can even add extra video cards and get more displays.  The uses of it are limited, and have been mostly been used by developers only and graphic artists.  Besides those ppl, multiple displays is a gimmick and rarely used.

my point had really nothing to do with whether i thought i a good idea or not.  mine was an argument about it "needing" 2 hdtvs to be used.  thats all.

my opinion itself is yeah, i agree, racing would be cool, other games annoying.  its another feature only worthwile if the developers capitalized on it.

Not many people have HDTV as it is so one could even cry about the xbox. But the cool thing is that this could be a nice feature for multiplayer games instead of split screens. I am sure that most people here have more than 1 standard TV in couple years People might have more than one HDTV to play mulitplayer games smile.gif.

this will be the next big thing on Cribs, i can see all the rappers now with 10 flat screens lined up playing 5 ps3s on them. some games for sure have a real use for it, but really how many people and gonna have two screens next to each other just for the ps3? it will be cool in store displays and stuff but i see no real world use for it.

oh and ive used dual monitors on my computer for 10 years now i cant live without dual monitors. but still i cant see the need for it with a console.

well as you say i doubt it will ever be critical to have multiple monitors...but i could take advantage of it.  i'll have my 112" HD front projector for my main gaming display and then use my 42" plasma for secondary features (maps, equipment selection, etc.)  it's gonna be sweet!

I have a lot of friends who have XBOXs and they all have HDTVs.  I'm just saying that I think HDTV is more of a concern to XBOX owners than PS2 owners.  We care more about having the best.

Also, this isn't a stunningly new feature, the PS2 had already done this:
GT4 on the PS2 supports up to 3 screens, although you need 2 additional PS2s to act as slaves to drive the other two screens.

slaves to drive the other ps2  biggrin.gif

anyway, no need to whine. it's a feature and just that. if you have 2 tvs, then go ahead and use it, if not, then don't.
it may not be a must have feature, but it's nothing to whine about!

You guys need to think about the bigger picture. These consoles aren't even out yet. With a release date of 2006 and a typical life-span of 5 years, these consoles will be around until at least 2011 and beyond (I know I'll be keeping my PS2 and Xbox a few years longer so we might be talking 2012 or 2013). Sure 1080p and dual HDTV outputs seem excessive now, but with the speed at which HDTV technology is improving and the price of HDTV sets dropping, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone has like 2 or 3 HDTVs in 5 years. The other thing to remember is that Sony's primary market is still Japan and in Japan they've been using digital TVs for years already. That's where the whole dual monitor thing will catch on first, then eventually the US and Europe so Sony might as well include the feature. Hell if you think about it, the Xbox and PS2 have HDTV capabilities but it wasn't until the last year or so that people really started using them. By no means is it mainstream but it's deffinitely gaining momentum.

Bottom line is, I'd rather have the feature than not have it especially since it's doubtful that it'll affect the overall price.

Lets now forget this, who the hell had a HDTV that did 720p/1080i when the xbox 1 came out. No one, but having those features is why us HDTV users dont touch a PS2 anymore....lack of HDTV support. So you guys can figure out where I am going with this.

Excactly dude.

All the fanboys say is "How many people will use it?"

I say, how many times have you wanted to system link but only had one xbox?
So if you can get 8 people playing an fps on two tvs with one ps3, I'm all for it.

If you don't like it....your a backward hick...plain and simple.

Acutally I find the dual screen thing  expensive. One hdtv is expensive enough, but do they expect you to use it for things other than multiplayer? I wouldn't imagine playing a shooter with half of my crosshair on one tv and the other on another. You'd have to have  small-framed plasmas or two projectors, totaling at a most-likely minimum cost of 2000$ total.

I'm fine with 1 tv, I'm not bashing the 2-tv thing, but it's just not practical enough to be seen as a selling point for me at least.

I agree somewhat. Sony is doing a good job at rivaling MS, but Im not buying into it. Not that its a whole scam or they are trying to market something fake. I'm sure ps3 is a great system in the works and that it might have more raw power that 360 by a bit, but I'm not interested in sony's game lists for ps2 and I doubt anything will change. Not much about xbox has changed, except for the rampant amount of quality rpgs and higher diversities of shooters (which is exactly why I wan a 360), and I doubt ps3 will be a curve ball in its industry.

Some people like sony. Alot of people do, actually. I'm just not one of them. Ps2 doesn't suck, it jsut doesn't provide me with what I wan't in a gaming console. This is what makes me choose to spend my hard earned cash on an xbox 360 instead this generation.

Good idea for DS style Game on one screen and Info on another, for example flight sims could use this well. Or possibly car sims.

But for split screen gaming, hmm, I dont think so. The line issue would be a bitch.

Its a good idea, Sony have had a lot of good ideas. I am impressed for once by a Sony console smile.gif

Shame its so large.
