I can live with the system design, but that controller is horrible. I would have much preferred if Sony stuck with the dual-shock style and simply incorporated a pair of triggers on the back (PS2 dual-shock is awful for driving games)

I also think that the system is way over engineered. It's got all this extra stuff that most probably will never get used, namely 3x Ethernet, 2x HDMI outputs, etc...

It's nice to see 1080p support, forward thinking. But how many people can afford a 1080p set?

and only 256Mb RAM? Seems a bit strange that everything else is so far ahead and Sony sticks with a piddly amount of RAM, even if it does supposedly run at 3.2Ghz. One of the biggest problem with the PS2 was it's lack of memory.

I can't get over that controller...  blink.gif

seing as sony are not even allowed to produce dual shock controllers anymore due to the mStealng the design and seing as they have not even settled the case yet i dont believe that controller is a dual shock in anyway shape or form.

MY GOD, that controller makes me puke.  jester.gif
And with the recent partnering of Square-Enix with MS, Sony just got a BIG blow with that. With them on board the Japanese market for the xbox will most definitely pick up.

The design resembles a coffin, which depicts the future of the PS3... Big frickin' deal it has a 1 Gbps ethernet port, like anyone actually has that running in their homes.. and if they do they would definitley be using fiber optic! Also 1080i is a better quality picture than 1080p.. I would imagine that a lot of the extra processor power and extra threads are going to be used to deal with the ridiculous amount of inputs this bastard has.. Two screen ouputs! Watch out! because I have two 42" LCD screens sitting right next to eachother in my living room... Maybe some of those 100 Mbps output ports are for daisy chaining PS3's together so I can squeeze 50 people in my appartment.. Sony is wasting their money on all this BS! How many games on the PS2 now use the Hard Drive? How many games are online and connected in the sense that the XBOX is? I don't know what Sony is trying to do... This whole thing is ridiculous.. Kudos on the George Foreman grill.. I just want better graphics and killer apps, who ever delivers wins in my books..

I for once think that the system doesnt look nice. It looks somehow kind off "dated." Like someone said an old "bose"system. I prefer the xbox design much more. And the controller, i hope some ph34r.gif 's will come and steal em all. Damn... blink.gif
However the performance seems to be awesome, however once again i read CGI graphics like toy story etcetera. Just like with ps2. I think both consoles will be awesome. Im more of a xbox fan, but if the console will deliver, i will own them both.

But the design damn.. I will buy another x360 and put the insides of the ps3 in the x360 (theyre stackable :-) wink.gif

So far the PS3's games aren't showing any graphical edge over the X360's games.

I dont think so... i run at 1080i and all multimedia looks like crap, movies fine, pc and xbox games are definitly not as crisp.  As far as i know all this digital stuff runs nativly in pragrssive scan.  and the japanese made 1080p thier new tv standard and have always been a step up( i believe they've had digital broadcast for decades now)i think dry.gif

Here is my list of faults for the PS3 so far:

1.  PS3 is now bigger than Xbox360 and doesn't look like you can stack a dvd player on top of it or else it will slide off.
2.  Supports 7 controllers.  Should have been an even 8.
3.  Controller looks bigger than MS's also.
4.  Does not support DVD+-RW.
5.  No ring of light or controller #.  How do you tell what controller port # you're using?
6.  Dual video output is excessive.  One HD tv costs enough already.
7.  Uses Blu-Ray discs, which has not been decided will be the official next gen dvd media.  Format war with HD-DVD will bring more complications.
8.  Screenshots of games so far seem to be on par with Xbox360's.  No major improvements seen yet.  So the head start in launch may be a huge advantage to MS afterall.
9.  The cost to manufacture this monster is going to hurt Sony big time.

Actually, that font was designed quite a few years ago by a fairly well known typeface designer by the name of Andrew Galarza (a.k.a. Zen Dog). The font name, for those looking to grab it for whatever purposes, is called "1979", and was used most notably in the past by The Smashing Pumpkins, and more recently the Spider-Man 1/2 movies, and now good ol' Sony.

I hate the new Playstation, but these pple are not stupid.
I am tired of sony,...  hoping MS will over throw their ass soon.
So, lets see what happens.
I am hoping the xbox 360 has a few more surprises for us.
Nice to see that Samsung & XBOX commercial.

One thing i dunno 100% is bout the teraflops crap,....
so the PS3 has 2x the power of the XBOX cpu?

Hmmm. no doubt the specs are far far better than xbox360. I really love the hdmi daul output at 1080p, wow.  Not to mention the graphical core.  I doubt, however, that this will translate into any noticable difference in quality/framerates in games for  1.5-2 yrs after ps3s released.  It takes time to develop/improve algorithms that can take real advantage of the hardware.  And i really doubt sony will offer ps3 at the same price point as xbox360 for some time to come.  Ultimately it comes down to moddability (if that's a word lol) for me.  Oh, and the design is better too, except for those fucked up controllers.

can't wait till they they're out.

As to the whole "why 7 instead of 8" for the number of controllers supported... I believe 7 is the bluetooth limit for the number of devices it can pair to at the same time. I dont really understand why they chose to use bluetooth over rf... I cant see there being many benefits. I guess it sounds cooler on paper (and thats obviously what sony is going for).
