The ground is not conected to each wire. There is a zener diode between ground and each.
You did use a 5v zener diode?

Ok, update:
Got my eeprom (yay!), and I seem to have locked my new hdd improperly. How can I completely erase it and start over?

I used xboxhdm to make my new hdd, and I think I made a typo when setting the lock code. Xboxhdm *did* say that 'XBOXSCENE' would also be the pass, but that doesn't seem to work(xboxhdm says 'DONE' no matter what I type). Anywayz, is the only way to unlock this to pay hddunlocker.com $20, or is there something else I missed?

Well, did you lock it with the password "XBOXSCENE"? f you did, you can unlock it with that password and then make a disc with the eeprom on it, and repassword the hard drive to your eeprom.

No, I locked it with a big long string I got from the eeprom file; xboxhdm said that 'XBOXSCENE' would also unlock the hdd (which it doesn't seem to).

Use the password "TEAMASSEMBLY" -Full caps, no spaces, no quotations.

Or, if you still have all the numbers you got from the eeprom, you should be able to unlock it with that.

That doesn't work either. Is there a way I can probe the hdd to get the lock code off it?

boot xbhdm choose option 4, when it boots type "atapwd" choose the first option, then there will be 2 options to unlock or disable security or something, enter "TEAMASSEMBLY"or "XBOXSCENE"(whatever password t said locked it), screwed my xbox the otherday playing around with my eeprom (put on a different one and couldnt unlock my hd) using config magic, used the password teamassembly and sorted my problem

Personally,  I wouldn't spend $20 to unlock the hard drive if you have the XBox's eeprom when you can buy 100GB - 250GB lockable hard drives for under $60 and use those in the XBox.

Also what hard drive brand and model do you have? If you cant get your hard drive unlocked with your eeprom file there are different ways to possibly unlock it depending on what model you have.

Ok, I'll try that now, and post if I have success or not.

IMO the easiest way to lock and unlock your xbox would be:

1)  Put your eeprom file in the eeprom folder of xboxhdm

2)  Click on  “make-iso-win” to create an iso

3)  Burn the iso you just created to a blank CD or CD-RW with imgburn or other burning program

4)  Put the CD into the CD-ROM and put your xbox hard drive on the primary IDE cable as a master

5)  Start the computer and at the xboxhdm menu select 3 for Linux lock and unlock tools

6)  Type "lockhd -a" if you want to lock or type "unlock -a" if you want to unlock and xboxhdm will automatically look in the eeprom folder to lock/lock your hard drive with the xbox's eeprom file and it will also create a master password XBOXSCENE
This should do it.  If your hard drive is new then one thing you might want to change with these instructions is in step 1.  In step 1 in addition to adding the eeprom.bin to the eeprom folder you will also want to add the contents of both the C folder and E folder from system/all in Slayers 2.7 to the C and E folder of xboxhdm

With this you can lock and unlock your hard drive as well as install a new hard drive from scratch.  If anything goes wrong you still have the eeprom file burned on the xboxhdm CD that will allow you to unlock the hard drive and erase it or do whatever you want to do with it then lock it again when you need.

Yea, I made a disc like this last night (didn't know I could've thrown the eeprom on it beforehand; otherwise I would've), so I won't do something this stupid again smile.gif DEFINATELY good advice.

Well, I bought the hdd about 3 days ago, so I'd hate to see it goto waste. It's a WD 250GB hdd with 8MB buffer (Cavier SE). Spent $80 on it brand new, so $20 is pretty trivial to me, as I was ready to spend about $100 on a hdd anywayz (but if I can stop spending now, all the better biggrin.gif ).

This was the key. Thank you. XBMC is now my dash, and I'm re-loading my stuff on it (yay!). Thanx everyone for your help!

Oh sorry I thought you were talking about your Xbox's 8GB/10GB hard drive and spending $20 to unlock that hard drive.  smile.gif

If you do happen to have an original Xbox HD and cant unlock it with the xbox's eeprom or the master passwords there are a couple of ways depending on the model that works for many people that could be tried.
Good to hear you got everything going fine.  I guess the good thing is you now have an eeprom reader that you can always use if you need to  help fix your friends xbox's

I still have the original hdd and when I hook it to my PC, my BIOS doesn't see it at all, so I can't seem to unlock. I'd still like to unlock it, as an 8/10GB drive can always come in handy.

Anywayz, I plan to re-use my eeprom reader as my friend is supposed to be bringing me 6 broken xboxes tomorrow (with different problems, though). Anywayz, I figure I can get 'em refurbed, throw a softmod, xbmc, and a larger hdd on 'em, and hawk 'em on ebay or something. Could also load the crap out of it with homebrew apps to give it more of a broad appeal.
