I haven't heard much about GC modchips. What have people been able to do with it?

The N6 4 emulator was hacked a loooong time ago, you can inject any ROM up to 64MBytes (8MB) I believe. Mario Kart runs blazingly fast in some stages. The problem is, you can only do 1 ROM at a time, and to play on a DVD-R, the image needs to be 1.35GB.

buy a mini-dvdr burner?  all the cd/dvd drives i have seen have a second layer cut out in the tray for mini discs...i haven't had to do anything differently to burn mini dvd's, they fit into the little cut out already...check your dvd burner- i bet it has it too.

Hi,

I'm not really interested in using backups, or hooking up my GC to PC for other stuff.  I would just like to be able to play USA GC games on my PAL GC without having to use that BLASTED Freeloader.  I have heard that the Viper GC enables this to happen on a PAL machine.  Can anyone confirm if this is true?  If so, is it really as simple as popping the NTSC game into your GC and hitting the power button?  As in none of that insert disc, take out disc, put in disc you want to play bull****.

I'm based in the UK, does anyone know anywhere I can send in my GC where they'll install it for me?

Thanks.
P.S. I'm shocked that someone is YET to come up with an internal mod for GC that makes it all region free.  It's been out how many years now?!

mark, are these hard to install. i do plenty of x3 chip installs.

and about how long does it take for putting the chip in, using bios and everything. so that it is ready to accept playing bakups.

are there any swaps involved.

also you said something about the new lid, do you think its going to be worth it. also i plan to make my jewel clear, and put lights and a tiny colored fan in mine.

do you think i can fit all that in with the chip and the new lid. i have never been inside a cube, but now that the chip is avialable i must.

I'll clarify a little.

The ViperGC is VERY easy to install. I have very shaky hands and I've only soldered 1 time before installing my Viper, and I did it my first try - EASILY.

The ViperGC is REGION FREE, you hold Y I believe when starting up to make it that way, then load your backup from any region. NOT ALL games from different regions boot on all machines just yet, but they are working to make it 100% compatible.

You DO need to swap discs, wether you're playing a backup, import, or homebrew. You ALWAYS need to start with an original GCN game in the drive in order to boot a DVD-R.

Go to cubehacker.com and read up on it. I believe they have links to Viper resellers.

I believe you need to boot with a PAL disc on a PAL console, and NTSC on an NTSC console. Increased compatibility = BIOS upgrade.

I'll get a ViperGC (or this new Nexus chip?) when I can load stuff decently over BBA without the need for PSO. I want t be able to turn the machine on, so it boots directly into my PC via the BBA so I can choose a game.

Either that, or get a HDD adaptor rigged-up. After all, those NR carts the red NR cart reader Dev Gamecubes take are just 8gb HDDs.

According to Mental, the latest Cobra BIOS fixes all region changing problems. I heard the new BIOS sucks though. I didn't upgrade.
