Strange Boot Problem

I got this strange problem with my xbox (v1.6) After displaying the big green X :-) the screen is getting black
the light is green, notting happen. I tried to hold the power button in and not releasing it, then the menu is coming up, if I now release the button and choose a game from the game meny (UnleashX) the same happen, the screen goes black. But if I hold the button even after I get the menu, and then choose a game from the game menu, the game starts. Now i can release the button and everything works fine. Anyone knows what causing this? could it be a faulty button or a faulty modchip?

PLEASE! HELP!
