Hd Loader For Ps2
« on: May 24, 2004, 08:49:00 PM »

I just discovered this posted on consolenewz

QUOTE
Utilizing exciting new technology, HDLoader allows you to install and run your Playstation 2™ games directly from a hard disk drive connected to your console (Sony PS2 Network adapter™ and compatible hard disk drive required).

Enhance Your Gaming Experience

The Playstation 2™ is capable of reading data from a hard disk drive much faster than it can read from a CD or DVD. Using HDLoader to run your games from a hard disk drive leads to significantly reduced game loading times. Never again will you need to endure painfully slow loading times which plague so many games!

HDLoader makes gaming more convenient by allowing you to store your games on a hard disk drive, eliminating the need to change discs each time you wish to play a different game.

Simple and Attractive Graphical Interface

HDLoader’s user interface is designed with simplicity in mind – boot up HDLoader and begin playing your games without wasting any time navigating through a complex user interface.

The intuitive user interface allows easy management of games currently installed on your hard disk drive. Add or remove games with the push of a button.

The interface is multi-lingual. Use HDLoader in your own language.

Excellent Compatibility

HDLoader offers excellent compatibility with your games – over 95% of games work flawlessly when running from your hard disk drive.

HDLoader is compatible with both standard IDE hard disk drives and the official Playstation 2™ hard disk drive.

The following games are known to be incompatible with HDLoader:

Biohazzard Outbreak,MX 2002,Peter Pan: The Legend of Neverland,Ratchet & Clank.
IMPORTANT: HDLoader is NOT compatible with the following Japanese PS2 models: SCPH 10000, SCPH 15000 and SCPH 18000.

It now seems like you can play your games from hdd just like on xbox some time soon. Proving those people said it could never happen. Hopefuly it'll come out. You will have to buy this from divineo as it will not be downloadable.

The cool thing about is that you dont need a chip for it to work,
on the site it says that HDLoader is provided as a pressed, bootable Playstation 2 disc. No modifications are required. And you can put up to a 120 gb HD in there.
Thats pretty good, thats what I have in my xbox.

I guess there is a bright side whether you have a modchip or not. Bright side to not having a modchip is that you can now play backups conveniently right off of your hard drive without having to perform a 22 wire microscopic mod installation. Bright side to all ready having a modchip installed is that you can just download the HDLoader program, burn it onto cdr and save yourself about 30-35 bucks.  Kinda makes me mad to find this out a month after I successfully modded my ps2.  I also wonder if there will be PS2 dashboards similar to Avalaunch, Evox, Unleashx etc.

I see no reason why there couldn't be a dashboard, thats basically what HDLoader is.  It'll take longer to develop due to the proprietory parts in the playstation.  All I know is, I just ordered me a PS2 with the network adapter and a game for $150.  Not bad at all.  Also got a Limited Edition Halo box coming, I thought those were "limited" why are they still so available?

Anyhow, looks as though PS2 modding is gonna start gaining attention.

Their is not to much they can do with the ps2 besides play its on games.... It's not as easy as xbox so i wouldent be waiting around for to much open source appz to come out . The ram on the ps2 is real low also 32mb... It's not going to catch up to xbox modding thats for sure..
