Multiple Hd's On Same Ide Problem?
« on: January 24, 2007, 04:44:00 PM »

Hi, I have fairly recently installed the X5 HD switch package into my Xbox (after some Xtender problems and having little to none electronics know-how) and have come across a problem. I have three hard drives: two stock HDs, both Western Digital and Seagate (for XBLive use), and one Maxtor 160GB. However, when I have all three plugged into the IDE, only the stock hard drives work properly, but the Maxtor gives me an error. So, I managed to get the manufacturers of the X5 to send me a new cable after some cable length issues, and now the Maxtor works, but fails to play anything but music in XBMC. So now, I have only the WD HD and the Maxtor HD on the cable, and it works fine, but I would like to have all of them working, since I am now hesitant to purchase another high capacity hard drive, which is what the X5 is meant for.

I have searched and read many threads relevant to this, including the debate between opjose and Palmore, but am unable to come to any final conclusions. I may try to rearrange the order in which the hard drives appear on the IDE, but until then, any help is much appreciated. I am also unable to determine if it's the Seagate drive that is being problematic. Thanks.
