you guys need to learn alot about FSB and actual CPU Clock the FSB is only the speed in which data travels from the CPU to the Memory in actuallity the ps2 CPU itself is running at 295mhz and just because the memory bus it 128 bits doesnt mean it is running at 1.2ghz it just means it can take 128 bits per clock cycle but only at the speed of 295mhz unless there is a multiplyer between the CPU and FSB

Yeah IMHO Xbox is A LOT better than PS2.

And for those who think that Xbox is a PC that can run linux, have you ever thought that running linux on PS2 is A LOT easier than Xbox. So?

Refering to a old finnish game magazine article some ppl said that "PS2 is the machine that controls the missiles of Saddam Hussein". Funny...

And it is REALLY stupid to say that PS2 can simulate feelings.
Oh yeah, if PS2 can simulate feelings, than Xbox can simulate 2 times more feelings because of it's faster CPU.

Another STUPID thing is that PS2 is faster than Xbox just because it's CPU has a 128-bit bus. So what, the Xbox CPU is 733 MHz and PS2 is 295. That means that Xbox cpu can process more data than PS2........

And the last stupid thing is that Xbox is PC just because it has nVIDIA GPU and Intel CPU. The GC must be an Apple because it has an ATI GPU and PowerPC CPU! According to those things, then the PS2 must be an human because it has feelings.

We've got to stop bashing PS2 because of it's emotions, 'cause if we do, every PS2 in the world will start to cry! They will have sad feelings! Then we've got to apologize every PS2...

dwelligan you're right. Except WRITING EVERYTHING IN CAPS IS SHOUTING!

BTW devrs have been complainting about PS2's so little size memory. And Max Payne 2 sucks on PS2. I mean really!

If the comparison was clock cycle for clock cycle and ignoring the bus width, then yes, the Xbox is faster...HOWEVER MaTiAz, you ignored the fact that the PS2 uses a 128-bit bus while the Xbox uses a 32-bit bus, THEREFORE going back to the comparison, to process one 128-bit chunk of data, the PS2 can do it in one pass while the Xbox needs roughly four passes to process that chunk of information.

In conclusion, fuck arguing about hardware...it's the software and the developers that can make a console look good or bad. A console with somewhat decent hardware could have a game that's badass since the developers found some neat tricks to pull off on the hardware, while another console with asskicking hardware can have a shit title cuz the developers didn't bother to find any cool tricks to use in the hardware.

<rant>If you don't like a certain console, don't buy it and just shut the fuck up about it.</rant>

Yes, but that's because the PS2 has a Linux package specifically for it, it was predesigned for the PS2, where on the Xbox it wasn't pre-designed, so on. The thing is you have to buy a hard drive for the PS2 to run in, which isnt true with the xbox, just download the Live Linux cd (incredibly easy) and pop it into your box, BLAMO instant linux

As to the CAPS fest up above, I'm not on PS2 scene why? Because I love my xbox's more, and I have actually successfully modded them, opposed to my PS2 that I'm waiting on a chip for

This may be adding more fuel to the fire, but here it goes...

Got drunk last night with a friend and we had a suprisingly constuctive argument regarding the Xbox and PS2 (in this case, the online services in general). This got me thinking some more about this topic.

Another thing to consider is features of the console. Like I said, this may add more fuel to the fire...but think about it. Xbox has the ability to let you create custom soundtracks for your games (as long as the game supports that feature), and the PS2 may have that feature when the HDD unit finally comes out (as I understand). The GameCube has the GBA adapter to allow GBA games to be played using your GameCube. Also, GC has the GC<->GBA connectivity for some games. The PS2 has backwards compatibility with PS1 games and devices. Personally, I like PS2 controllers the best...the layout of the controlls just feel "ergonomically correct" for me...

I will always and forever say: "Fuck the hardware specs and look at what the developers can do". I am a child of the 80s, so I've played my fair share of Atari 2600 and Odessey2 before owning an NES. Here's a good example of why I say the above: Pop Super Mario Bros. into your NES and play it for a while, then pop in Super Mario Bros. 3. Notice the obvious difference? Also, When Core (I think they were the developers...) came out with Tomb Raider for Saturn, there wasn't a way for the Saturn to handle translucency (sp?) real well for when they had to have water in parts of the levels. They messed around with the hardware and tried some code and came up with a solution that would do what they needed to (the PS1 already had the capability to handle translucency).

BTW, I have a Nintendo (sans flip-top dust door), SNES, JVC X'Eye (Genesis and CD rolled into one package) and 32X, Jaguar, 3DO, PS1 (doesn't work, so it's a doorstop now), Saturn, PS2, GC, and, of course, Xbox. That's four generations of post-crash video game hardware, so I've seen some great titles on "underdeveloped hardware", and some shit titles on beefy hardware.

cool.gif I'm still thinking that overall though the XBox is more powerful hardware wise, but it boils down to games.

i don't know if this was said before, as i didn't feel like reading every post but not alot of people actually mod their machine compared to people that just buy one to play. so in all actuality moddeding dosn't mean shit when it comes down to the sales of each system.
