-m$ has nothing to do with the Gamecube.  Hackers love to screw m$ and they know how to do it.  Who the hell know what kind of os the gamecube is running.  It sure isn?t windows ce like the dreamcast was.

I know I like to screw M$, I don't even use a pc I use Apple. I also wouldn't have even bought my xbox if my firend didn't show me his modded box. I play emulators on it about 80% of the time and xbox  games the other 20% In my opinion GC and PS2 have much better games, I'm seriously considering a mod for my ps2.

Excuse, but, what the hell is the point of this topic? Why would a modchip come out for a system that has games that you can't backup (yet)? If you want to play imports on it, however, get FreeLoader.

This topic deserves...

In my opinion modding the GC would be fucking simple.

It would all be based on a mod-chip and an external HDD. You take your original and then dump it to the external HDD directly from the gamecube, and then use the mod-chip to play the game from your external HDD. You could also FTP the game you just dumped to the HDD onto a HDD on your PC and then "share it", ppl would then download it and FTP it to their external HDD and use their mod-chip to play it. This way the discs are not an issue because the only dumping taking place would be from the Gamecube itself to the external HDD.

If its so simple, please get started on it! Oh, and BTW, keep us updated  wink.gif

I think this whole Thread is SO pointless. In my opinon the Gamecube is awesome, and I wouldn't mind paying 50 bucks for exclusives! (Games that are on the xbox as well thoh I seem to......PIRATE! BWAHAHAHA. But I would buy a gamecube game ANY day. So their is really no point for a chip.....

I have heard an idea though where the laser in the gamecube was a lot longer then most, and you could rip off the off the top part of the DVD drive and then add another casing above it big enough to fit a CD-R, then it could MAYBE read through their, although don't start yelling at me, thats just somthing I once heard and it sounded plausible...peace guys.

QUOTE (knightfall @ May 29 2003, 07:45 AM)
i could and probably am wrong but i have heard rumors that gc spins counterclockwise so it would be hard to burn the games, again this is just what i have been told

As for the Spinning and REading backwards crap, I think people got it all wrong.

By Reading it backwards, from the outer section to the middle, all this tells me is that it was not Burned backwards, but rather the TOC is at the opposite side of the disc then normal, simple as that (I think.)

And I have a CD64. Device plugs into the bottom of the N64, it has a CD drive and 64MB ram, you can load all games into the ram (Except Zelda MM & RE) and the N64 thinks its the Cart, they run 100% the same.

Could they do this with GC? Possibly. How do they RIP the data off the disc? Think Dreamcast, or they found a way to get the GC drive working on a PC, or with some cables and such, found a way to intercept the data between the Drive and the RAM on the system, or something like that.

By intercepting the data, here's what one website posted a while ago, it seems they where trying something along those lines.

All those reasons I would consider valid - hence, null vote

We don't even have multi-region cubes yet, which makes me think that we'll possibly not see mods on the GC for a very long time.

Just to let you know: you can modify a GameCube to play different region games, using a switch and
some soldering.I currently have no link to show you,but if anyone else has it: feel free to post it! smile.gif

Lost For Words, for one, with a Mod Chip, you wouldnt need your own Disc Press.
A mod chip would likley disable the security features of the system, thus letting you use mini-dvd's.

Also, a Region Mod came out before the console even hit the USA, try and keep up with the news if your gonna argue about such a thing.
My GC has a Region mod, and the LED changes color depending on which Region it is set to.

And also, you dont need to Flash the system bios, thats what mod chips are for. Typically, such as with the Xbox, a mod chip simply Overrides the system bios, thus you dont need to Flash anything on the console itself.

I'm aware of a switch to change between NTSC-J and NTSC-U, but not PAL as well. But I could be wrong.

The GC, the second one down at Lan-Kwei is a switch one: http://www.lan-kwei.com/gamecubeE/

Flea420, it would certainly make sense if that was the case, we'll see!

You seem to be right about that: I haven't seen any modifications for PAL GameCube consoles as well. blink.gif

The only way I know of to play different region games on PAL GameCubes is by using Datel's FreeLoader disc. But that's just software, and no hardware modification is required.

Why aren't PAL GameCubes region-modded yet???Maybe the motherboard has a totally different lay-out.Can anyone post more info about that???I'm curious about it. smile.gif

The only PAL GameCubes that I have seen modded are the Panasonic GameCube Q's (which I am selling one, although the one for sale is not modded yet) and they are modded with a Region Free DVD Player mod, and a Region Free Switch as well for games as the other modded GCs.

From what I've read, the barcode doesn't matter. The new Freeloader discs don't even have them, and they can boot fine. Some people have taken black markers to the barcode and claim that the discs still boot, but I'll believe that when I see it. Either way I don't think the barcode is much of an impediment to a mod chip.

Since Nintendo has no form of XBL there's no reason for me to get origionals.

Would be nice if GameCube was like Dreamcast and wouldn't need a modchip to play games.

Remember, the GC is a little over a year old.

Unless I'm wrong, the boot discs only came later in the DC's life...

We still have a way to go, but there is always time!

Boot discs for the DC came about 9 months after it was released.
