I was under the impression the the gamecube q could make/play backups, anybody have any info on this?

The mod allows the Q to play these extra's:
- US GC software
- All region DVD's/dvd-r's
- All region VCD's
- MP3 cd-r's (maybe dvd-r's)

It doesn't have the switch to switch the GC region...you hold the power button for 3 seconds to boot US.  (There are other mods for it, but this one I have is the "latest & greatest" so to say.)

I haven't really tried everything on mine. I don't have enough time to play with it.  I really only got it for playing VCD movies at friend's houses without needing a PC, but unfortunately it doesn't convert the Video output into NTSC(USA).  After trading for some cammed-VCD's I wanted to see, I found that out and now I really have no use for it (since I already finished Metroid Prime biggrin.gif ).  Most traders don't know what they are sending you since all video output will play fine on a PC.

VCD's have no region.
I know stuff too!!!  laugh.gif

And why buy that huge thing when you could have bought a $50 dvd player from kmart, walmart, circuit city, bestbuy or really any store that sells electronics. Most dvd player play VCD now and if you looked around you would have seem them 3 years ago for about $150,now everyone makes dvd players that support mp3,cd-r,cd-rw,dvd-r and vcd.

i havent even finished the video and im betting its a 100 % fake, the wires could have been going anywhere. They probably just had another gamecube somewhere in there connected.

I think its real.

If you look at the close up of the video input on the TV its VIDEO3, same input that they use.  So therefore, if another GC was being used it would have to be attached in the front.  Then they show the cable from the GC going straight into the VIDEO3 input.

The only way around this would be to record on a vcr the exact same steps that they went through, then play it back, and mimic all the button press's, ect... Which i think is likely cause if you watch the movie, the button presses look like they match fairly well, plus, its hard to tell in the video, but they would have had to quicly attach a vcr to the back.

Its real.  I wonder hows its been done?

id like to see him pull that controller to proove its connected to the gamecube in that video, even if he was though, it could have been good timing. That video was the fakest piece of crap ever.

The only mod i have seen for GC is a cosmetic paint job mod...oh yeah and someone added another heatsink one time. And you can add a switch for japanese game compatability.

thats about it

there is a 1 wire, 2 point switch you can install to make your us console boot jap games.  (like the freeloader)

i doubt the devers use mini dvd's also as someone said on page 2. they probbaly use the high speed serial port on the bottom (like we use evox and the xdk) and they probably have a special devcube to go with their codewarriors (i think thats the name of it) pc's.

i would like to see a mod for the gamecube, just because i think it would be interesting to see if it really can give this console new life, or it itll kill it off faster (sorry for all you gamecube fans out there, but they are last in sales, at my store 2.1% of all sales in february were gamecube software, compared to 9.6% xbox, and 21.2% ps2)

The GBA player for GC is suppose to come with some sort of boot disc to play the GBA games on GC. Isn't there a way someone can use it to boot backups or maybe use it for soem kind of external device.

My thoughts exactly, something like those cartirages for backing up gba games only bigger so we could fit gamecube games on them...but how do we rip the games?

an external device could be used but how would u copy the games?
answer is.. you could'nt because nintendo are'nt give those discs to anyone not even if they offered a $billion i think that this is a good move because then you don't have to worry about piracy on gamecube and you can't use full sized discs because the drive bay is too small and only the regular mini discs fit and besides no games console company deserves to have the work ripped off not even M$ even though they are rich they still have to make money like all other companies

 rolleyes.gif

that's what they said about the dreamcast, and look what kind of situation happened to them

ohmy.gif

The NR Reader, which I assume NR = No Region, is just used to play some revisions of a developers games burned onto a GOD-r.  I assume that region coding can only be done with a CD/DVD/GOD Press, so a GOD-r will only work on an NR machine or better.

I can't remember what the site said about actually burning the GOD-r...it may have been a re-badged commercially available DVD burner with a special firmware or something.  LOL, imagine an A05 with the Nintendo logo on it. biggrin.gif

Found the site...but the GOD-r pic isn't there:

The difference between the NR Readers and the regular commercial GCs is that the NR Readers use mini DVD-Rs, not GOD-Rs.

Really?!  I would guess that a GOD-r is a mini-dvd-r with that barcode on the inner ring.

If it did just use standard mini-dvd-r's, I'd think there would be a chip out already...or major demand for the NR Readers.
