Is There A "modified" Gamecube?
« on: August 16, 2002, 11:51:00 AM »

Lik-Sang sells a "Gamecube Q" that plays gamecube games, mp3s and dvds...it's quite pricey, tho...
quoted from lik-sang.com:

Panasonic Gamecube Q - The High End Entertainment Machine

Panasonic's Gamecube is a mix of DVD player and Gamecube game console. Supposed to be released in Japan only, a must have for all video game freaks and high end fans. As an enhanced version our machine is modified to play Japanese and American Gamecube titles, all Region 1-6 PAL/NTSC DVD movies as well as MP3 files. What else would you need? You are definitively going to impress all your friends with this sleek and and sexy unit!

Price: 459.00 USD  (~3,580.15 HKD)

Theoretically this gamecube would be moddable because it allows standard size cds/dvds to fit...I think Nintendo put proprietary firmware in the cube tho, so I'm not sure...tongue.gif

the country mod was discovered a whole day after its release in north america.

Its a simple matter of bridging a jumper (a .99$ SPST switch from radio shack fits the bill)  Check your favorite search engine for details, I cant think of a link.

Past that, pretty much everything of interest in the game cube is stuck into one of 2 big custom chips.. One from intel, one from ATI..  So reverse engineering is difficult, to say the very least.

Though I wont be surprised to see a mod that allows you to somehow connect a drive through the high-speed expansion port in the back of the 'cube..

Is there a way to copy Gamecube games yet?  I'm guessing no but might as well ask...

I can afford a gamecube, but I have chosen not to buy one.  I personally don't like the controller (z button is a bitch), and i believe that the xbox is more versatile and ps2 has more (and better) games.  Yes, I have played Mario Sunshine and SSBM and all of the other awesome games for gamecube, but i just don't see myself buying one in the near future.  All in all, Gamecube is a great system for those hard-pressed for cash.

PS:  Zelda destroyed Gamecube.  For me, anyway.

I just purchased and recieved a Gamecube universal, plays all imports and domestic gamecube games using a switch on the back of the unit. Heck, I've been playing Mario sunshine for about two weeks now.

www.toysnjoys.com check out import gamecubes and look for the universal cube that comes with the import smash brothers mele.

mario sunshine's been out for more than 2 weeks

I understand mirx point though, I remember seeing the press photos of what Zelda 'might' look like on the GC, and saying, "Well gosh, that looks good!" Then I see this cel-shaded ugliness...  Cel-shading was good at first, but too many people are doing it.  Hurts my eyes grr.gif

It could be the best game ever, and I still wouldn't play it for the migraines.

Hello Retard!  How can Zelda have destroyed the GC for you when it still has 6 months to be released??? laugh.gif

Look at the game, it is not 1337, it is not cool, it is diffrent, but not what I want in a zelda game, and that goes for alot of gamers and zeldaphiles, it will not kill the system, but then again it will not sell well, and will turn off  some
