PS2 vs XBOX installation of MOD CHIP

Yeah...my understanding is that many of those points aren't pre-tinned like the xbox's mobo, either, so you could rip those traces out easily...the xbox mods have a greater margin of error than ps2 messiahs, which is strange to me, considering the xbox's sophisticated hardware, you would think it be the other way around...blink.gif

swap out chips are the easiest I found.  So weeks later I installed the Neo 2.6 chip, that one is very easy to install.  Only 6 points and very easy to find solder points, away from other points.  With the no swap chips I would have to solder onto chips and those points were way to close for my experience.

I thought it was kinda fun, but I'm pretty good at soldering. There's supposed to be a clip that attaches to the bios chip. This is supposed to get rid of the hardest points to solder IE: the bios connections. and leave something like 11 connnections or something like that. I bought one of these just to cut down on the install time. However it didn't work very well with my version 5 and I ended up having to take all the wires off and resolder just the chip.
But to break it down a little better these are my install times for different systems:

PS1 (4 wire mod) = 10 minutes from the moment I touched the first screw to when I put the last screw in.

XBox (bare enigma) = 2 hours this included soldering the wires to the legs on the chip

PS2 (Magic 2 w/clip) = 1 hour I did this while talking to my buddy on the phone at the same time

PS2 (Magic 2 w/o clip) = 2 hours. lots of checking and double checking that I was connecting to the right points.

There are some points that I just wouldn't want to do again and there were a couple of scary moments during the PS2 regular install. I will avoid installing a chip in the PS2 in the future and if a friend wanted me to do it I would make it very clear to him or her that they may have a 200 paperweight when I'm done.

i attempted doing the original neo 2 chip and failed.  that was only 6 wires if i remember correctly.  first attempt though on enigmah, got it booting.  takes much patience and a very good source of light on the board but if you can solder, it can be done.

messiah doesn't need any slashing of tracing or component removal - the neo4.x does.  The messiah install is many times more difficult than an enigmah.  Some pic's of my install can be seen on the ps2ownz forums at http://www.modchipforums.com/
