8050l Question

Ok, Not sure if this is the area for this question but, I read a tutorial on how to activate cdr support in the 8163 drive by grounding the vrcd point through a 1k smd resistor. Well, I tried it for the 8050L (because the tut said It could be done) and tried about 7 different brands of CDR including sony, fujifilm, and memorex....nothing, so I wonder. Is the vrcd point in a different spot on the 8050L even tho the boards look virtually identical???? Any help??
