Xbox Hdd Problems!
« on: December 08, 2006, 02:38:00 PM »

ok so my friend gave me his xbox because it would start up and then go really  really slow unless and wouldnt run games. It would immediatly go to the reset clock screen where you could configure the time...after i pressed the A button it took aproximently 30 sec. to get to the hardrive screen. then if you selected the hardrive it would say nothing is in there...we concluded saying that the hardrive was corrupted. So i bought a new harddrive straight out of another xbox that works fine in the xbox it came from. Well when i put it in the screen said service required and had a big number 6 in the corner. i disconnected the hardrive again and then pluged in the old on it worked like it regularly did...the hardrives are exactly the same...but it wont work...is there any thing i can do to fix these problems??? WITHOUT A MOD CHIP!!!???   please respond some one....thank you,

Every xbox hard drive is locked to a specific motherboard. Your new hard drive is locked to the xbox it came from, and can not be used in your xbox unless it is unlocked with the eeprom from the motherboard it came from. Boot the xbox with the original hard drive, then softmod it. Back up the C and E drive to your computer. Make a backup of your xbox's eeprom using config magic or evox. Then FTP it to your computer. Then use xboxhdm to create a new hard drive for your xbox.
