I have to disagree.  I play nl hold em all the time.  Mabe 2-3 times a week with my friends.

Poker requires skill.  No luck is involved.  You have to be able to read your opponent(s).  I completely disagree with you.  I say it is just as much of a sport as football is to most people.   Try telling Doyle Brunson poker is not a sport.  He's made a living off it.  I take it you either just got a very, very bad beat or you just cant play.

poker is a game not a sport.  People make livings off a lot of different things and they're not sports.  Many things require great skill and they're not a sport.  I play texas hold em probably once a week, not that much but i've done it long enough to know that there is luck involed.

simple example:  you have a pair of 10's.... you can't read whether that person has a pair of 9's or a pair of jacks.  in cases like that there is a lot of luck, you can't deny it just because it's something you really like and actually do have skill in.

Well any pocket pair b4 the flop, chances are unless you are a professional at reading people, you wont know.  But after the flop, just watch the player.  You get good reads. (just like you read a play in football)

i tottally agree ... people misuse the word "sport" alot nowadays to me REAL SPORTS are all the major sports like... NFL - NBA - NHL - MLB - SOCCER - GOLF (im sure theres a few i left out but these are pretty much it)... basically anything where theres alot of actuall body movement... i think u get my point.

That doesn't make any sense. Football is a game too but its a sport. If you don't classify it as a "game", what would you call it? A sport perhaps?

The following was taking from dictionary.com. Look at definition number 3. I declare number 9 the best sport of all.

celinedrules  u actually think poker is a sport?

i still stand by what i said before... it dont matter what people define a sport as to me "REAL SPORTS" are things where u got alot of body movement/action etc.

poker takes skill to play but it is definately not a sport if u ask me... as it's all thinking there is NO action in it whatsoever.

Poker has rules and is competative.

well I've heard that chess is a sport in the past.  And if chess is considered a sport than hell, poker is right up there with it.

that doesn't mean I agree with it, but hey.. I didn't define "sport", you can thank webster for that

I think it is a sport.

Sports don't have to be athletic. Have you heard of "non-athletic" sports?

This is a thread COMPLETELY based on opinion.  I guess it would be hard to determin whether it was a sport or not.  Its just what you think it is.
