The last time trial stage I watched was a mockery. Somones gonna get hurt with fans getting in the way. I knwo being close to the action seems cool, but there should be some limits.

I guess its all part of the tour.
i remember a few years back some guy ran in front of the cyclist coming first to take a pic of him and ran into his bike making him fall. But a day lator he was able to meet the rider and say sorry.  laugh.gif

my dads friend did that time trial, before the profesionals did, as the the officials let people ride the course before hand.

He sent me a cool tour de france hat aswell.  smile.gif

What was his time?  I think I could do that time trial if I was given six or seven hours, preferably split over the course of two or three days.  wink.gif

If anyone wants to get pissed at an idiot writer who doesn't know the first thing about cycling, then check this out:

what does taking a beating have to do with being an athelete

besides, lance could own any footbal game, as long as he gets a suiting possition

IE: qb lateral to him, and he runs like hell.

and...

football player + cycling = disaster waiting to happen

To me the term athlete requires a combination of physical conditioning and handeye coordination/skill. Cycling really doesn't require as much skill as some other sports. Nor baseball being in shape (David Wells anyone?) When I think great athletes I tend to think more along the lines of someone like Michael Jordan, (To pick a well known example.) Fit and skilled as all hell. No matter now in shape I were to get I could never do what MJ could. And no matter how skilled you were if you were morbidly obese you wouldn't be able to play the way he did either.

I don't want to sound like I'm trying to steal Lances good name. As far as endurance goes he's amazing. As good as it gets. Greatest athlete? I've heard both him and Barry Bonds mentioned in the last few months. I don't think either of them are deserving of that title. I don't really know who is though.

Well it's all so relative.  Comparing a football player to a bike rider is worse than comparing apples to oranges.  Lance Armstrong may be the most physically fit man in the world, but it's difficult to say where the lines between skill and athleticism are drawn.
