Vga->dvi Converter Quality Issies
« on: November 28, 2006, 03:09:00 AM »

Please bear with me since I'm not very knoledgable on HD tech. and this might not be as clear as I'd like.

My girlfriend recently bought a Phillips "HD ready" TV and Xbox 360, and the official cable that allows the connection of the console to a VGA connection. This cable is connected to our televisions DVI port via an adaptor such as this -> http://www.gottohav....360dvicomponent

We noticed, however, that the screen quality was slightly blurry. Having tried setting the resolotion of the 360 in its system menu to all the available choices we found nothing worked. Certainly, it was nowhere near as crisp as the 360 pods in our local game stores.

I'm aware that my TV accepts both DVI-A and DVI-D (that is, I believe, analogue and digital signals of DVI.) When trying our TV with the PC it worked great, and received from it a digital signal allowing for some of the more fancy elements of our TV to be used. The 360, however, appears to broadcast an analogue signal.

So, basically we don't know whether our relatively poor quality image is down to a bad choice of TV, the 360 not even broadcasting a digital signal, or the converter reducing the quality.

Just for reference, here is the TV she decided on... http://www.amazon.co...3720803-1076668

Also, although I say the image quality was poor, it's probably better described as disappointing. Its not like I couldn't read the text in Dead Rising or anything ^_^Any assistance or information would be gratefully appreciated!
