Hi all,

I have a v1.3 box with an Xecuter 2.3b+ (solderless) chip and at 120gb Maxtor drive in it.  I've had it now successfully modded for over two years.

Recently, my box stopped working.  I use XBMC as my dash, and was loading NHL 07 from the programs menu, and as soon as I selected it, the screen went black, and the box froze.  Since then, it will not boot.  I get past the flubber to the xbox logo, but it freezes there.  It will sit at that screen for as long as I leave the xbox on.  The chip is secured properly (and all the LEDs are properly lit) as are the hard drive and Samsung disc drive.

I have spent hours reading the forums about similar issues, and there seem to be two possible causes: hard drive failure or MCPX failure.  I believe my situation is somewhat unique, however:

When I turn the chip switched OFF, the xbox will not boot.  I receive error 05 (which leads me to believe a hard drive issue).  With the chip switched ON, the only thing that works in the slightest is an evox boot disc.  I put in the boot disc, and it still freezes on the logo, but after about 1 minute, the evox dash SLOWLY fades into the picture.  It takes over 2 minutes for the logo to fade out and for the evox dash to fade in.  The dash does respond to the d-pad, but it takes about 15 seconds to scroll from one menu item to another.  FTP does not work.  This issue leads me to believe the MCPX may be the problem.

This topic has been helpful and probably is the closest description of my problem, although not quite.

Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated.  I don't wish to spend hours trying to fix something that isn't fixable.  Thank you in advance!
