Congratulations To Obama
« on: June 04, 2008, 07:17:00 AM »

QUOTE
A last-minute rush of Democratic superdelegates, as well as the results from the final primaries, in Montana and South Dakota, pushed Mr. Obama over the threshold of winning the 2,118 delegates needed to be nominated at the party’s convention in August. The victory for Mr. Obama, the son of a black Kenyan father and a white Kansan mother, broke racial barriers and represented a remarkable rise for a man who just four years ago served in the Illinois Senate.

“Tonight, we mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another — a journey that will bring a new and better day to America,” Mr. Obama told supporters at a rally in St. Paul. “Because of you, tonight I can stand here and say that I will be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States of America.”

Looking forward to the election. I am registered and will vote and am a bleeding heart liberal. So if you can't stand bleeding heart liberals, better register and vote or my vote will count twice- the one I cast and the one you did not cast.  biggrin.gif

Hope Obama wins it, hopefully he will make the middle-east a better place and I hope he puts the UN or some kind of peace keeping missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, Blair had no right to drag us into Iraq/Afghanistan with Bush it should have at least been a vote or something.

ExxonMobil continues to receive billions of dollars from publicly-funded corporate handouts, in the form of tax breaks and royalty relief (for oil taken from public lands).

so you are one of those people thats wants $12/gallon gas like europe? the rest of the stuff you mentioned isn't going to be changed by obama. he is full of empty promises and rhetoric. he "promises" to lower taxes for the middle class, guess what, bill clinton promised that too, before hiking them. his foreign policy is absolutely abysmal as well. he only looks at  the short term impact and not the long term impact (and by long term, i mean 10 years out, pretty much just after his presidency ends if he is elected 2 terms)

Excuse me? I mean I was even willing to give George Bush a chance when he first started. Up until Irag was invaded, I was supporting most of his policies. But I knew Iraq would be a mistake.
Most presidents are "full of empty promises" when they are running for office.
And as far as subsidizing Exxon, how would that make gasoline $12/gallon? As far as I can tell, any relief the government gives Exxon goes to bonuses for executives and dividends for stock holders. The amount of relief Exxon gets is not specifically targeted towards development of new fields.
Seems like you can fortell the future. You missed your calling.
I think  the changed attitude the rest of the world will have towards the USA is worth electing Obama. We need more friends, not more enemies. Hopefully, with the Democrats controlling Congress and a Democrat in the White House (one with some legislative experience) we can see some progress on medical insurance reform, education reform, etc. Nothing concrete can be promised right now, but at least it will be a change.

But doesn't the rest of the world hate the united states or something like that?

I think bush w. was told what to do and was finishing sr.'s thing.

Please don't get wrong, I don't really follow politics.  I just think the war was a fuck up but shit happens.  It will get better.

I hope Obama whoops everyones ass.  He may not be the most experienced or whatever, but the man has drive.  He seems to be putting alot of effort into what he believes in.  Thats enough for me.

I don't think $12 gallon gas is a bad thing.  It will cause drastic changes in the way we produce and use energy, which is long overdue.

if you think the US is in an economic recession id hate to see your reaction to 12 dollar a gallon gas, it would push a large percentage of the population below the poverty line

I don't blame bush for everything that is happening.  Alot of things hit all at once.  Some things could have been handled better, but we are past that now.  And bring on the $12 per gallon gasoline.  I'll be happy to see it.

This kind of argument really pisses me off.  I have friends who pull this shit all the time.  Try to turn anyone into a hypocrite about anything.

then maybe you should stop being a hypocrite?

Go read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, and get an understanding of how far liberalism can go

this saving the world bullshit, and 'we can do it' slogans are the end of it. When politicians proclaim 'we can do it' it really means 'we will legislate that you do it' whether it can be done or not. Almost never is the technical professionals ever questioned or listened to in these matters. How many people bought hybrid cars because Al Gore told them to. WHO THE FUCK IS AL GORE. YAY ETHANOL, BOO COAL, SAVE THE PLANET.

We need to go back to conservative roots, cut the fucking war bullshit, worry about our economy before we save the world. Especially since the rest of the world dosent give a shit.

We are using most of our corn fields to produce ethanol where that was one of the few things we can export. Its just one example of backwards thought.

Going back and reading this, I wasn't aiming this at vader.  Just saying that I have friends who ALWAYS say stuff like that.  For example, I'll say I can't spend a bunch of money on a video game or w/e cause I need to save for rent, they come back and question me when I spend $5 for some food.  (This is a guy whose parents pay for every cent of his expenses in college)

Didn't mean anything towards you vader.
