Who sponsored or wrote this ammendment? Im sick of the annonymousness / low profiles that people who pump crap like this out enjoy. They should have to answer to the public. This just like the RealID law is a slap in the face of every citizen of US.

How in the hell will this work for home movies? You would like to send out the christmas tapes to your family but of course that will be illegal to do now.. i wouldnt be surprised if whoever goes through with this enforces dvd players to HAVE a broadband connection or something so if one backup is detected theres something that goes out to the assholes who made this amendment and they will send out the fbi or something on you.

As this guy said, the people who license the DVD copy protection, CSS, are changing their license so that you can't make a licensed piece of software or hardware to rip DVDs. This has no effect on anyone here really, because CSS is completely cracked, and there are millions of pieces of software that can remove it.

The proposed amendment is 10+ years late. Disk based media will become virtually obsolete in a decade or so as all of our media will be digitized with new restrictions on it's use.

yes, this is the real information behind this "amendment" and it would not affect us as much as the general public or the hardware/software manufacturers that deal with dvd media. plus i watch all my backups on XBMC so i don't really care

i, too, cannot wait until optical disc media is both old and as useful as cassette tapes - bring me digital content on flash chips or via download. i hate using dvd players because of the slow disc and menu loading times and having to physically load each dvd - thus another reason why i prefer XBMC...i love being able to jump to any scene in any movie of my collection in seconds - all from my couch or bed

For all the people worried about not being able to watch scratched movies. The solution to this is to have the manufacturers of the DVD's replace scratched DVD's. All you need to do is ship the DVD back, pay $1 or $2 for the product to be shipped back. End of story.

Take care of your stuff and it'll be okay. Or you can invest in a DVD/CD scratch fixer that usualy fixes any scratches. Misuse is your own fault.

not necessarily...many people allow their family to use their discs too - and you cannot control children with optical media...and even those adults who are extremely careful, things happen - we should all have the right to protect the media that we purchase...

They're gonna came with a workaround to make every mate in your family to buy the pretty same kind of camcorder with Serial number in a sequence (not greater than 20 numbers) so the disk or even tape could be playable.....

This is the worst, I'm voting current "DRM" in bluerays and HDs will remain in this world...

There's always a way to undo their efforts.

Gonna tell this joke to some pals.
