speed limits are there for a reason, would you rather be hit by a car doing 30 or by a car doing 60?
and the whole im a safe driver argument is out the window before its even brought up, it doesn't matter how safe YOU are its the other drivers/pedestrians that you need to worry about.

Accident Record

The overall safety record of autobahns is comparable to other European motorways, and motorways are safer than other road types. A 2005 study by the Federal Minister of the Interior indicated that there were an equal number of accidents per kilometer on the autobahn in sections without any speed limits.

even though the autobahn may have the same crash rate, the no speed limit means more deaths rather than an injury.

I think people should be in the ranges provided in the above posts, which is average and should be an average... no less, no more...

I agree faster speed makes for a more serious injury. No doubt. I only posted the link above to show that average speed has nothing to do with the total amount of accidents.

There is also the pollution argument. Faster speed takes more energy.

So there needs to be a standard, and a median is easier to follow than a limit. Keeping the needle around 55 is easier than keeping it at 55.

Plus, a lot of money comes from speed violations.

Speeding fines aren't a tax and shouldn't be seen as such.
I understand where you are coming from, but to play devil's advocate...

I would rather fines be used as a sort of tax, and proper citizens don't have to pay as much money as law breakers do. It is fair. If you don't like it, don't break the law. It is a choice.

In your opinion, where should the fine money go?

Well cosidering tax dollars goto prisons and such I would proboly say it should go anywhere but there. Prisoners shouldnt get benefits like cable tv and an entire gym and such for breaking the law. Theres just so much to include in where it should really go but it would never get done so what does it matter?
