Brainwashing 101
« on: February 11, 2005, 11:53:00 PM »

I just saw this raw cut - thought i would share it

I could really relate to it, as my college experience has been very similar.  I am currently taking a break from college to take care of my kid, but it is good to know that other people are going through this as well.

AcademicBias: Brainwashing 101

keep in mind that this is a very raw cut.  the final film is coming out later this year.  I hope the final version is a littel more intertaining as this one legged at times.

I really liked the story about the Sheik at UT.

My favourite quote went something like this:
"they want a diversity of students, but they dont want a diversity of ideas"

not brainwashed at all... conservatives should be able to recognise that this pile of crap is the exact same as a michael moore doc...

hypocrites...

Whenever I have attacked moores films - I have actually attacked the info he provides in his movie like his statistics, merrit of his sources, and stuff that is totally unsupported by anything - give me the same curtesy
otherwise i will be forced to agree with Wong Hung Lo

That is a reply I would expect from one of the brainwashed.

please - rather than saying nothing at all - attack parts of the movie.  I really do want to see your perspectives on this.

This is not the greatest movie in the world, but it does express my frustrations with college, and my inability to truly express my beliefs and at the same time get a good GPA.  Colleges are supposed to be an arena for the exploration of ideas, yet conservative ideas are rarely aloud a platform to be explored.

I am not a member of the Republican club on my campus, but the school has tried to shut it down several times citing that its presence angers the students.  Also, my poli-sci papers have to be flawless if I am going to express my own oppinion, where as if I simply regurgitate the liberal BS that my profs spew out (like most of my classmates do) I am almost always assured an "A" to "A+".  What does that sound like to you?

One of my Economics teachers gave me an F for a paper I wrote on "Milton Friedman", who among other things won the 1976 Nobel Memorial Prize for economic science, stating that he is not a "Real" economists.  ARGHHHHHHH.

I dont know what college is like in America but my girlfriend did a Masters in International Relations and was taught diferent perspectives including from both extremes of the spectrum, she was told to decide which one she felt was right. For the same course in America they are taught one ideology and indoctered that is the right way. Not really liberal teaching is it?

Ohio mulls bill to counter ‘college liberalism’
But many professors concerned proposal would stifle debate

Goes both ways. I think the bigger problem is unnacreddited religious schools and teachers giving out 'degree's' and warped education

I dont want to see laws written over this, but I find it hilarious that they think it will stiffle debate by allowing a balance of oppinions in discussions.  I also dont see a problem with introducing controversial material so long as it is presented in that fashion.  Its also true that Professors are intimidating, especially when your questioning their teachings in front of the class.

QUOTE
The proposal in Ohio to create an academic “bill of rights” would prohibit public and private college professors from presenting opinions as fact or penalizing students for expressing their views.

a good teacher already does this.  The best teacher I ever had was my AP Poli Sci teacher.  Her intro speach to the class went something along the line of, "I am a communist, by the end of this class I want you all to know what you are too."  She facilatated some of the best discussions I have ever had.  By the end of the class I had actually decided that I was a socialist ( i didnt become a conservative till around my sophmore year in college).

QUOTE
I do think that 'speech codes' are overblown in the way the the Partiot act is though.

Both 'could be bad' but until the rules are being abused I could care less. To date there has not been 'speech code' litigation that has been unfair. And at the same time I'm not overly concerned at people knowing what I signed out of the library.

Dman, these campus administrators are not doing this because they want to stifle debate. It is because for every split issue, there is one hundredd whacko's on each side that want to whine about it.

I am not for speech codes at all.  But for the sake of arguement lets say your right, and they need them to protect themselves.  Why do they so often come on the side of the Left?  Fine, have your speech codes if you absolutely have too - just do it equaelly.  The video even had the head of the Democratic Club stating that the Speach Codes are used selectively against conservatives (she view this as wrong as well).

P.S. Your Sig could be viewed as proof of this indoctrination/brainwashing process. beerchug.gif
