british military analyst must have a completely different take on japanvsUS

Japan lost 2million in WWII
US lost 300,000 in both europe and the pacific
Now, i know what your saying, the US was a Johny-Come-Lately so heres another little fact
Our kill ration was roughly 1:10 (US:Japanese)
so while our casualties were high - theirs was higher.

The US did not want to get into a war of atrician with the Japanese - which is where WWII was heading in the abscence of the A-Bomb.  But Truman was determined to carry it that far because he would not waiver from FDR's assanign "unconditional surrender" decleration.

At the time the Japenese were fighting like crazymen. There was massive American casualties and although they had all but won they didnt dare send troops to Japan itself. With hindsight who knows if they would have dropped the bomb. But at the time it ws the right thing to do.
