And, I still can't understand how a big wave can kill over 100,000 people. Is it just the destruction of things that caused debris to kill people? I can understand drowning, but still, 100,000+ dead from a big wave baffles my logic.

well its a lot of water. water can do a lot of damage when released like that. im supraised that the casulties isnt more like 1,000,000 myself.

they should be feeling lucky at how well tehy got away with it, rather then crying poor

The wave came in seconds, giving hardly any chance to run to safety.The only warning they got was the sea retreating by 100's of metres before the 10 metre high wave hit shore.

They might not be able to afford it, as the majority of the countries are third world, although I do remember reading about Australia being interested in helping out with that project. I admit the tsunami, like 9/11 does seem surreal, as it has hard to imagine so many dead.

You can just imagine the power ehind the waves. If hitting water going 50 mph is like hiting a brock wall, then there is a 50 mph brick wall rushing at you.  Not only do the wavers whip people off thier feet, throwing them into any objects around, and drowning them, but also hurls objects in every direction. Like someone said, on island was a mear  avg of 10 ft above sea level. And when a 50 foot waves i heading at you, it's hard tog et out of the way.
There has been reports that small islands were moved, and the earth began reotating faster. I'll see if I can find a link about this.

Have you guys seen the satellite shots of indonesia before and after the disaster?  It looks entirely different... huge portions of the country are completely submerged.

yer i have also heard about that aort of thing. one of teh newspapers said it moved earth off its axis.
