Error 21 Fixed But...
« on: October 19, 2006, 07:34:00 AM »

can anyone offer me advice on this.
i bought a box from ebay with error 21.
i installed a modchip and all is now fine on the error 21.
but when i checked out the drive i notice that it is not stock and theres lots of stuff on there already e.g. XBMC.
i found a backup dir on E with 2 subdirs: mod and MS.
i restored the mod directory to C and now i can boot with the chip disabled.

so my question is how can i find out how this box was modded - eg softmod or TSOP. as it obviously was modded and there was no solder evidence anywhere.

i would like to put it back to modded and reclaim my chip for another box.

ideas anyone?
(hope this is in the right forum?)

cheers

Sounds like it was softmodded - but - does it really matter how it was modded?

My opinion: If it's not a 1.6, flash the TSOP. This would still require you to use a game exploit though.

Otherwise, softmod with kingroach ndure installer. Should be easy to just FTP over the softmod files and be done.

thanks for the reply.
it doesnt matter how it was modded so long as i can use it!
sorry to be dumb here (only ever done modchips) but for the softmod option you mention, do i need to have an original game? and what does it boot to - a dash of my choice?

the TSOP option means soldering the write protect points correct? ( i have tried this on another box but could only get to write protected error using eurasia flashdisk - checked soldering several times could find no error so resorted to my tried and trusted modchip  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) )

i'm keen to get this box to boot to evox or whatever, without a chip, so any pointers  please.

cheers

No, it's possible to use XboxHDM to install the exploit files directly your Xbox's hard drive.

Yes, a softmodded Xbox performs nearly exactly as a chip-modded Xbox.

Yes, you cannot write to the TSOP unless these points are bridged.

Although not as recommended as bridging the write-enable points with solder, you can also use a CircuitWriter pen to accomplish the task.

ok, so for the softmod, i can boot using my chip, copy the necessary files over, add a dashboard and away we go. is that it in essence?
i know i have some more reading to do, but just want to get the bones straight in my head. also with this box being already modded, and with the backup directories being on E, it is probable that i already have the necessary files there, i just need to put them in the right place?

i may try TSOP, but softmod seems easier at the moment if i can already ftp to the box...

what would be the advantage of soft over TSOP, or vice versa?

thanks.
