Picture yourself finally getting out of the army, finding a new job,  working at that job for a couple of years and then suddenly getting called back to the army involuntarily with risk of imprisonment if you refuse.  Sounds like fun doesn't it.

Well it's not as if these people didn't know what they were getting into. They're fulfilling their obligations as the article says. There won't be a draft so don't worry about it. Those worried about a draft can solve that problem by enlisting now so they can't be drafted.

How can you say "there won't be a draft?" Our military is already so over-deployed that we've began to implement stop-loss, as well as moving soldiers from N. Korea (like my friend who is now in the Mojave desert training for Iraq), etc to the Gulf, as well as this latest "forced re-enlistment." If I'm a 17 year-old kid who may have been looking at the military or reserves as an option a year or two ago, I'd now have second thoughts. Likewise, people who may have chosen to re-up may now choose a civillian life. If a country like N. Korea or Iran rears ther ugly head, whose military will we send? The "coalition of the willing," or will we need to reinstate the draft? Or, will we just pull troops from Iraq and Afghanistan?

i think its rediculous that the government is stopping soldiers from retiring even though they've served their time and pulling soldiers retirements. and in the very near future there will probably be a draft. so im kinda scared since im nearly 18 and by the time i do turn 18 ill be drafted.

there was a thing in the san antonio express news today concerning the draft. and just like f9/11 and moore says, more of the politicians  should send their kids off to war. if they were to instate the draft soon, once i get a job im going to start saving money so i can "visit" my family in scotland. because if i supported the war maybe i would, but ive been against the war since the begining. these are just my feelings, and alot of you older guys are probably reading it and saying, "silly, naive kid *and shakes head*"

When you join the military you basically sign papers agreeing to the following (in the most basic terms):

- I will fulfill my active duty committment.
- I will be a reservist for x years after my initial committment is filled.
- It is not my job to decide how/where I am used, it is my job to just do it.
- I will die at my Country's request.

Have any of you ever read the agreement? It is so hypocritical to see members of the military trying to back out now because "they don't agree with the war". What? Did they not read the papers they signed? The goverment makes the decisions, we will never know why they make the decisions they do (we cannot know all the facts, obviously, since it is not our jobs to know this type of information), so all you can do is go along with it. If you don't agree, vote in a new administration

Finally someone is making some sense.  Instead of bitching all the time, use your rights and help make a difference.  It takes time, but that's how democracy works.  Bitching never got anyone anywhere.

Joining the military is an agreement with the US gov, and soldiers are often called into duty against their will.  But that was their commitment, and they knew it.  Most honorable soldiers may dread where they're going, but wish to fight for their motherland.  I'm not just referring to US soldiers there.  It's funny calling the US our "motherland".  She's young... and hot.

I highly doubt the American public would ever allow a draft.  It's an archaic principle and simply wouldn't fly in today's world.  Vietnam turned out the way it did for many reasons, however, one of those reasons was the lack of training.  Our recruits were fresh on the rice paddies while the VC (and guerillas) were well-seasoned soldiers.  We'd see the same thing.

The modern draft, in every instance of its exaction, has been written and executed by democrats.  The Bush administration has expressed disagreement with the current bills, proposed by a democrat from new york, to enact a new draft.  Additionally, the modern selective service laws regarding the draft were established in 1994 under clinton, another democrat.

..but somehow it's all about Bush and his crazy war mongering.
