Insurance Firm Sues Microsoft over Xbox House Fire
Posted by XanTium | October 6 11:39 EST

From theinquirer.net:
Quote

An insurance company acting on behalf of Melvin Young has sued Microsoft because his house suffered an extensive fire because an Xbox malfunctioned on January 5th last year.

Allstate is demanding Microsoft shell out $250,000 to cover the insurance costs on the house. The case was filed in a circuit court for Prince George's County. An earlier case, linked below, was settled between the Weatherfords and Microsoft last year.

Free hint for the lawyers of the insurance company: it's the Xbox PSU itself, not the cable. But well, that issue has been covered enough on our pages.

I think this is BS, there is no way the xbox cause the house to burn down. Just a way for the insurance company to get their money back.

This may be just setting the stage for how many homes will succumb to the intense heat of 360. I think I'll be using my 360 to heat my home this winter.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

I have been doing that for years with my original Xbox. Put a game in, put the fan on 100% and let the heating begin.

Umm, are you forgetting about the sparking power supplies and how Microsoft had a cable recall that basically was a cheap "fix" that would cause the cable to short so a fire wouldn't start?

i've fixed 4-5 faulty foxlink power supplies from V1.0 xbox's and the solder points actaully break and begin to spark. So i could easily see a fire occuring if the xbox was sitting on a carpet, or next to some bedding that was flammable.

If they just filed that suit i think the judge will throw it out because of timeliness. The law says you have to file in a "timely fashion." Thats usually a year tops.

How could they prove that is what caused the fire? I really doubt that was the problem ....Where were the sparks coming from?

Yeah and lots of these are figments of my imagination.  Starts with loose power cord connector, then crackling, then sparks inside, then either powers out or catches fire.  I saw this happen in front of my eyes.

My Xbox turned itself off one day and I took hold of the power cord only to get greeted by some sparks.
It wouldn't surprise me if it actually did start the fire. They already admitted there was a problem when they started giving out new power cords.
