check to see if the 128 comes up in xbmc and if it doesn't, then you need to upgrade your bios

also, you need to run ram delimiter (i can't remember the exact name, but it is something similar) to get full use out of it i think

Like zebes said, programs must be patched with ramdelimit, and your bios must support it. You wont be able to notice a big difference unless you are using linux, and a little difference in xbmc and emu's.

In the patching instructions, which xbe file are they talking about? Should I go into the different emulator folders and patch the xbe file for all of them? Should I patch the dashboard xbe? It's a tad unclear.

Congrats, dream. I suggest getting the IND-bios. I like it better, anyhow.

RAM Delimit is only needed for retail games.  Homebrew already make use of available RAM.

and what about this delimiter how does it work and what files do i patch....?
As Perplexer has said, most homebrew applications are already able to utilize the additional RAM.

However, Xbox games (and some older applications) were not designed to use 128 MB of RAM. If you open an executable named 'default.xbe' file with 'DeLimit.exe', clicking 'Patch' will remove the 64 MB limit. You could then transfer the file back to your Xbox.

If you only have a soldering iron, and no access to a re-working station, one method of soldering the additional RAM chips can be found here. Some more information can be found here.

However, I strongly recommend that you have the extra RAM installed by someone who has expertise in the area, especially if you are unsure of your soldering abilities.

On earlier Xboxes, there is slightly more solder on the RAM vias than on later versions. This would aid in the soldering process.

Yes, with any method of securing the added RAM, do not rush! smile.gif

But I cant afoord a rework station and know noone that has one. How long does it take you to do a ram upgrade with the rework station? Would the cheap radioshack desolder iron thing work? The one one hook a fish hose to?

It takes me 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to do a ram upgrade. I have no idea what ratshack crap you are talking about. Just stick to the desoldering braid method and take your time.

for me the best way to do a ram upgrade (without a rework station) is to simply use a flat tip iron and some flux. if you have a 1.0-1.1 board there will be elevated solder pads with more than enough solder on there to do the uprade, if there isisnt any solder add a bit of flux (non acid of cource) and place the ram chip on. there are 2 round spots on corners of thechip. align the small round spot with the white dot on the board (pin 1) and just heat up the corners and add solder as needed.. and repeat for all the chips. to remove I find the best way is to use a desoldering braid with flux in it with a little more flux. takes appk 2 hours total for experienced ppl and 4-5 hous total (removal and installation) for noobs. you cant really brick the console if you take your time.. if you remove a trace just rewire it. IF the pad came off and is not linked to anything it SHOULD still work just fine.. if not rewire with 30 awg wire.

Good luck!

Thats how I learned, The hardest way is always best because you learn more. After all the hand soldering ive done, ive more than earned my rework station.
