One thing is for sure.. I will not vote for a candidate who supports gay marriages ala John Kerry

What's wrong with gay marriages?  I only ask because I've yet to hear a decent argument against them.

Marriages for gays means higher insurance premiums for everyone.  I shouldn't have to pay more money so a bunch of homosexuals can get HIV medicine for free.

And how about all the healthy homosexuals?  They're not entitled to benefits like everyone else?  Maybe the single gay guys are a little pissed at having to pay for HIV medicine for straight people.

Of course they're entitled to benefits...insurance companies don't discriminate based on sexual preference, but if gays were allowed to marry, they would be forced to provide free coverage for the spouses.

You clearly have no idea how insurance works, and are just grasping for straws.

The insurance premium burden gay marriage would place on the country would be unfair to EVERYONE except the irresponsible HIV carriers themselves.

I'm an insurance adjuster.  You're missing the point.  Try again.

I feel people who are gay.. want attention. They want the gay community to be an important factor in American society. I am not sure what kind-of a factor they can be, but I see it as a negative one. How can our country continue to succeed with such a factor being accepted as a part of life?

We have seen what kind-of effect a different culture has had on our country.. like with African Americans. Even though there were allowed to be "equal men", they were still ridiculed, and riots, etc. broke out. Even today, after all that has happened, racism is still a major flaw in this country.

If gays are allowed to be married, more gays will come out and it will create turmoil here with anti-homosexuality a major issue like racism.

I am not homophobic, but I just do not see gay marriages being a good thing for this country as a political issue.

You're right, equal rights suck.

For the record, gays are normal people.  Although I'm not gay, I have a relative and a few friends who are gay/lesbian.  They're all very cool people.  They're already a part of society, and not a negative one.

If gay marriages encourage more gays to come out of the closet, then I wish them the best.  It must be horrible for them to have to live a lie their entire life out of fear.

African American integration has had a positive impact on society.  There's no doubting that.  It has not been a smooth ride for them, I'll admit, but every race or ethnic group (more or less) has had to fight for acceptance at some point in history.

So, you think that blacks should still be enslaved?  Or sent back to africa?

Of course not. I was making the point that, let's say for example, people are not fond of gay couples openly bonding in public. It is okay when a guy and girl kiss, but what if you, or your children, saw two men kissing in public? I just wouldn't want my child to see something that isn't right. Or, maybe the couple would be victims of assault, or even more, for such a thing?

They can already kiss in public.  They are already victims of persecution.

And gay marriages becoming legal would make it worse. It would be best for the gay community not to get married.

See, I dunno.  I guess I define 'worse' differently than you do.

bingo.  I think it would be harder to explain to an open minded child (read: not tainted by religion) why 2 people who love each other cant get married, then why 2 gays were kissing.  You can make a big fuss all day about how God doesn't like something, but God doesn't run this country.  And if it was so un natural, then there would be no homosexual animals in the world, which there are.

note: not knocking on God or religion, just pointing out.

Gays have equal rights.  Marriage is defined as one man and one woman, nothing gives any group, including gays, the right to change that definition.  Gays are not being discriminated against, they are allowed to marry, as they should be...they just can't "marry" each other, because that's not what marriage is in the eyes of the United States.

Not when it violates the civil rights of every american.  By enforcing laws not voted upon or passed by any branch of government, everyone suffers.

I don't feel violated.  And I'm pretty sure the Massachusetts SJC gave the okay on gay marriage.
