each partition can be 250 gb before you format it with 32k clusters to allow up to 500gb per partiion. So because 750gb is really about 700 gb or so due to the 1024/1000mb conversion. You wil need one parition (f/g) formatted with 32k clusters. xb partitioner will do this for you

While this is cool for the "why the hell not" front, IMO the options to allow the use of such a massive drive are, well, dumb. 64k clusters will turn every tiny you make (such as save files) from 4kb to 64k. Not much really but that builds up, along with every file that jumps the barrier from 96kb to just taking up 3 32kb clusters to 2 64kb wasting some in the process. This arguement was used back when people were jumping from FAT16->32 except it saved space by making clusters smaller at that point in time.

IMO I would think it would make more economically sense across the board to setup a Samba server with a few terabytes in it, this way you aren't limiting your content to a single XBox. A 120gb or even 320gb should suffice for more than a weeks straight worth of video.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

QUOTE(xboxgamer733 @ Sep 4 2006, 08:09 AM) View Post

When using only the Xbox BIOS, it is not possible to fully use a 750 GB hard drive, as I have said earlier. Formatting the drive with 64 KB clusters, though, would allow such a large drive to be used without corruption.

However, if the drive has a partition table stored on its first sector, this partitioning scheme will be used instead of the stock one. This table, which can be created with XBPartitioner, allows non-standard partition sizes to be used. This statement is similar to the information that 'Big Whoopin'' posted.

Ok I am still confused about bios limitations. Can we agree on the facts and parameters of the undertaking of partioning a hard drive.

Is the X2 or X3 bios LBA32 or LBA48?
Please explain.

Can partions I thru U be created based on LBA48 or LBA32?
Please explain.

if the partion table is stored on the drive what are the possible combinations of partions of F or G or ?
a. 128gb@8k
b. 256gb@16k
c. 512gb@32k
d. other@? please explain.

partion c, e, x, y, z can not be altered in gb and cluster size?
a. True
b. False
please explain.

Are those partion parameters stored on the drive? ie c, e, x, y, z. with the X3 bios.
a. yes
b. no
please explain.

The partition sizing is still defined in the X2 BIOS in case the drive doesn't have a table recorded and these still wind out being different files.  x2.5035.bin is probably the "stock" version with "F gets all" and x2.5035.137.bin is probably F to 137GB and G gets the rest.  Pull down a utility such as X2 Config Maker by Klutsh (should be available at X-S) and I think it can read the setting in the file.

x2config.ini is not required, but it is necessary for additional control of the BIOS.  It can go on the root of E or F.  If you add a custom image I believe it needs to be on E.  Check the X2CL forum on Team-Xecuter for more info.
