Trying To Recover Songs And Playlists From Ipod
« on: May 17, 2006, 01:56:00 AM »

My notebook pc crashed recently. I was dumb and didn't have my music backed up. I was able to get my most important files off and into my ipod. However when I tried putting them on a friend's pc for safe keeping, his itunes took over and erased half my songs.  So now the songs on my ipod make up half my library. I've tried to get my songs and playlist back onto my now fixed notebook, but the programs I try to use detect errors when a song is missing from a playlist. They then shut down, and don't finish. Does anyone know of a free program that will put my songs back on my computer. Also, if I download itunes now, will it detect my ipod and erase it since the itunes library is empty?

Any help would be appreciated

Yeah, it probably will.
Winamp may be your best best.  The newest version has iPod support built in.
Plug in the iPod, then start up Winamp.  It will show up (the iPod) in your media library, and then just select All Songs and copy them to your computer.  Do this all in one shot, as it seems that sometimes Winamp can corrupt some stuff, so rip them all before you eject and unplug the iPod.

As for the ones you lost, you may be able to get them back with a disc recovery tool, but I don't think so.

EDIT: Oh, and you have a LOT of gamerpoints.smile.gif

iPod Agent will do it perfectly.  Even when your trial expires, and you are limited to 2 options, choose song listing and music copy.
