Hey guys, I have recently gotten in to Heavy Metal, and I want to know who some of the better speed/thrash metal bands are.

Depends on what your idea of heavy/thrash metal is. Theres the stuff that you just cant understand as most of it is screaming (but usually very good instrumentals) for those I would recomend:
Acephale
Animal Hate
Bombstrike

For stuff where you can acctually understand the lyrics, at least somewhat (I prefer this) check out:
Soulfly
Anthrax
Silentdecay

My personal favorite is the stuff that has a more 'classical' feel to it, you have the loud guitars, heavy bass-lines, but also like a piano or violin, very nice mix:
Kapel Meister
Nightwish
Sonata Arctica

Some of those are a bit 'off the shelf' though, so unless you know where to look it may be hard to find them. Just some of my favorites

Yeah, I guess i forgot to mention i've listened to Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer, Slipknot, Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Death. I really like the stuff with good guitar riff's and fast double basses. (And also, it doesn't really matter to me if they have that really low death metal vocals like Death/Cannibal Corpse, I know some people who can't stand that)

My roomate is an underground metal fucking nut. He gets like 5 new CD's in the mail every week. He probably has 700+ CD's all metal, deathmetal, underground shit.

These are just some more bands I like that are classified as metal, wether you call them that or not is up to you (I say this because I've seen Static-X called metal or alternative)

Xenomorph (the CD I have from these guys is acctually titled Necrophilia Mon Amour... dont ask, it was given to me by a freind... and no, its not just a weird coincidence that its in a different lanugae and translations and what not, one of the songs litterally opens up with "this is the blackest way to fuck the dead"

I got some more, I just got sick of looking through my Winamp library. Most of its acctually Norweigen or Swiss, or one of those countries, those guys know how to make some heavy metal.

black metal (more along the fake poppy side). The thing with black metal is, you're either in Norway buning churches, or on MTV.

i dont know where they fit, but shadows fall, slipknot, Atreyu, As I Lay Dying, Spineshank, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, some Refused is good, Bleeding Through (they own all), Dead to Fall, Stone Sour. those are some of my favorites
