Whats Your Setup?
« on: July 15, 2005, 10:42:00 PM »

So for all the musicians on here, what's your setup? I have a Gibson SG Special and for practicing I have a Marshall MG30DFX Combo and to compete with drums I have a Fender Hot rod Deluxe. I'm hoping to get a smaller tube amp for practicice to replace my solid state marshall but I just don't have the money right now because I'm trying my hand at building a guitar. I'm going to be painting it with the wylde bullseye and am undecided about the pickups yet, something thet will give me a jazzy tone instead of the EMG pickups in the wylde LP.

i USED to have a marshall jcm800 head with a 1960 AV vintage celsion cab

Gibson explorer with custom emgs and a gibson flying V (all of them used and got them for a good price)

but then stuff happened and i had to sell it all, i don't like to talk about it

now i have 4 crappy guitars and 4 1/2 amps and 2 named brand effects pedals

guitars

b.c. rich warlock bronze edition, you may think this is a crap guitar and your right
if you read reviews on this you'll know what i mean
but if you know how to play it then it kicks ass

right now this guitar is my baby  love.gif

epiphone strat body style - big piece of crap i really need to work on it and drill a new hole for the strap (the other hole got stripped), rewire the thing so it plays through an amp

yamaha acoutic (with a hole punched in the bottom of it) - the big hole gives it better sound i swear  ph34r.gif
this is good for just playing around a campfire and stuff

synsonic (with a built in amp) - my first guitar, a good beginner guitar and it was only $80
some frets don't work, thinking about sanding the non working frets down since you really can't adjust the bridge on this thing

amps

38w (15w size) fender amp

this is the one i currently use

19w washburn
a very good back up amp

5w honeytone pocket amp

some kid at school i barely know just gave this to me, that was kick ass of him

a real 30 watt marshall generic G series
lasted a year and the input jack broke
tried fixing it, ended up having to bridge the circuit board
did several more experiments, ended up frying it

thats a shame since it was a good amp, may it rest in pieces  sad.gif

pedals

BOSS GE-4 equalizer
pair this up with my fender and i get an awesome sound

thinking about selling this though, i get too much noise out of this when turned up too high
i'm going to buy a multi effects pedal

BOSS PH-3 Phase shifter
this was pretty cool at first but i don't know when i'm ever going to use it
i'm trying to sell it

if you ask me boss pedals are good but they cost way too much

Me nethier, I saved up alot for the equipment but it doesnt mean I can play very well or use it to it's full extent. Hell a friend of mine has been playing for 10 years and he used to play a $99 pacifica and it sounded better than me on my SG. It's 90% the musician and only %10 the equiptment. wink.gif

The top tom came with two bottoms so i have to make another trip to get that fixed.

ive got a sabian crash/ride that is the only thing left on my set in good condition.

But hey, 300 bucks.  Not expecting a $2k mapex set.

How much you selling that ph-3 death ? The only phase I tried was mxr 90 and it was good, since its a boss Im guessing this is a thousand times better. I saw the ph3 88$ on music123 I might give it a go in a few months since the price is decent.

Ok, heres my pretty crappy setup,

Fender (Mexican made) strat.  I love the thing in the bridge position through tube amps.  But here is what kills it, I am running it through a Line6 modeling amp (I absolutely hate the thing, it sounds horrible after you have played through a nice tube amp for a while)

Other than that, I am getting into snth sounds, and I am running an Evolution 49 key controller into Reason 3.0...

Hopefully soon I can upgrade to a tube amp or one of those distortion pedals with a tube inside. Vox makes one, and there is another called the "tonebone" and both sound pretty good.
