Want to talk about wierd bands?  I saw this band one time called "Man or Astroman" and they were kooks.  All these old school black and white tv's with static playing.  The guitar player had his whole face duct taped up and they shot static electricity intot the crowd (with one of those tesla coil things...I think that's what they are called).  Then they opened up  jars of mayonaise and started flicking it around calling is space juice.  They couldn't play that well either.

I have seen some really good bands that rocked, just didn't have the best stage show.  I saw Nirvana twice, Pearl Jam (met Eddie Vedder), Bad Religion, Green Day, Seaweed, got in fight with a skinhead at a Bosstones concert, Smashing Pumpkins twice, all kinds of shows.  To me it doesn't matter what a band does on stage as long as they can play.  If they do cool stuff, its just a bonus.  One band I think would put on a killer show and I have never seen is KISS.  I think they probably aren't that tight musically anymore but imagine all the fire and explosions.  That would be sweet.

I've seen a lot of bands live, but the best 3 bands that I've seen so far, were Offspring (hands down), Staind, and KoRn. I am going to Project Revolution in August, I am hoping to add Linkin Park to the list.

A band you've probably heard on Canadian radio called 54-40. I wasn't really into them before I saw the show, but they blew me away. It was ten times more intense than their studio songs which are fairly boring. The songs were different live, with background singers and more pronounced guitars, it was great. Other than that I would have to say Marilyn Manson on the Antichrist Superstar tour, since Winnipeg doesn't get many big name shows. I see people rolling their eyes at the last example, but it was a really cool performance.

QUOTE (mike96sc2 @ Jun 28 2004, 04:34 PM)
A Perfect Circle

Even if you're not a fan their live stuff sounds as good if not better than the record. Maynard James Keenan Really loves to play with the audience too between songs so that was fun.

MJK - "When I count to three say 'fuck Britney Spears', okay 1,2,3"
Audience - "Fuck Britney Spears"
MJK - "I Wish I Could".

he does that on tour with Tool too

QUOTE
MJK "repeat after me....i will not listen to authority"
Audience "i will not listen authority"
MJK "i will not conform"
Audience "i will not conform"
MJK "i will be my own person"
Audience "i will be my own person"
MJK "i will not repeat what some guy with a microphone says"
Audience "...."

anyway, best live bands

Korn
Disturbed

and for all them you cant be in a place with chairs, you have to have GA ticket, because they way they always get the audience going is incredible, being crushed against a railing by 15,000 screaming fans never felt so good

BTW, best korn songs live = Shoots and Ladders (bagpipes at the beginning, metallica at the end, it works) Somebody Someone, and Another Brick in the Wall (new cover from the upcoming greatest hits album)

Second... err Fourth 311

Greenday kicks ass too

Went to that one concert with Story of the Year (they kicked ass as an opening band), Hoobastank (reason I went to the concert, they were amazing), PoD (damn pussies, they were up there so long people started booing...), Linkin Park (better than i though t they'd be but not too impressed).

I wanna see some real big fish just because they're so cool, or Elvis, but he's ded.

one of the best live shows i have ever seen but maybe not nescisarily the best band would have to be marilyn manson or cradle of filth.  though i do have to say that i do NOT like cradle of filth, the stage show was one of the best ever.  they had all sorts of trapese artists and gymnists that were stacking themselves and flipping all over the stage, and climbing ropes as they twisted them on their legs then proceeded in freefalling stopping at the last second before hitting the ground, etc.  manson had all sorts of "freeks" parading around the stage with a berlesque type show going on

now as far as great live bands go, Godsmack, Disturbed, and Slipknot all rank up in there very high.  Godsmack is great with the way they work the crowd, then when they bring out the standing drum kit and the stage starts spinning and such, it's just awesome.  they sound exelent live.  disturbed i never actually liked till i saw them live, any concert that is going well enough for you to crowd surf for 5 min straight (not an over exageration either, man it was the best surf) is worth listening to, they also sounded great live.  Slipknot is jus tdownright insane, when you listen to their cds and you hear some of the guitar and drum solos you think man that's some good drum/guitar playing, but then you see them live and realize it's not a solo at all, but 2 people playing 2 different parts of 1 thing, and flowing together seamlessly.  to have 9 people all up on stage working together and comming together and sounding as great as they do is just, insane.

actually i can't believe that i managed to forget system of a down in that mix, their stage presence is just so full of energy, surge's voice is insane, dave's guitar solos are definately something to see, and the energy from the crowd is rediculous.

i have also seen some other bands that i love live, but that doesn't mean they are nescisarily a great live band.
36 crazyfists, ill nino, kittie, adema, thine eye bleed, hatebreed, korn, etc etc (mind is too dead to think any more, but i've seen lots of great bands live, and lots of bands that most would assume would be good because of their cds, but live they just plain blow ass)

baner:  i don't nescisarily like story of the year or any of that sort of music, but i do have to say they are very good live, their guitarist that does all that guitar spinning round the back and rolling on the floor and such while he's playing is insane, and the whole band is so full of energy, though i don't like their music, i will admit when bands have talent and they are good at what they do, i don't rate bands as being good or bad just because i do or don't like them but rather as the skill they have

CKY, Offspring, Orgy, or A Perfect Circle.

I seen offspring a few years back when Americana came out and it rocked. I met Orgy believe it or not at a local restrauant that my sister was a waitress at and she was there waitress and got 3 tickets and 10 bucks as a tip And some other band was there but it was a no show I can't remember the name it was like Fat Pig or something like that. But, when I went to see Orgy that was pretty badass. MY uncle went to A Perfect Circle concert and he loved it so I want to go there. And I have heard CKY do some crazy shit at the concert so that would be pretty bad ass to see them.
I have seen

Offspring
Orgy
Linkin Park
D12/Eminem, JoJo and few others in concert as well (I went to the B96 Bash and they were there I had no idea who was playing.
Also would probably like to go to a Tool concert or if Rage against the machine was still together def. them as well.

American Idiot, is that out on the internet yet? I heard one song on the radio today. It still sounds like green day but it has a twist that I am not used to hearing from GD.

Greenday are incredible, seen chilli peppers and coldplay (dont know if you have heard of them over there?), and they blew me away as well. White stripes rock and get hold of either of the Libertines albumns, they are incredible live, franz ferdinand have just won the murcury music prize and they are brilliant (as long as your not a homo-phobe).

Best of all for sheer performance value is the roots or the Hives, ive seen them twice and I dont really like the albumns its just the peformance is  electric.
