Great Covers
« on: June 23, 2004, 08:28:00 AM »

I was just looking around WinMX and found some amazing covers. For example Johnny Cash's cover of U2's 'One', Green Days cover of 'I fought the Law' and truly shockingly awful Avril Lavigne cover of Systems of a Downs 'chop Suey'.

So my question is what great covers are there that are not well known or those that are even very well know.

( Not really Ska covers, although I dont mind them that much)

Any Richard Cheese Cover.  Particularly Down with the sickness from Dawn of the Dead.

There is a band called Me First and the Gimme Gimmes that do nothing but punk (not really ska just fat guitar riffs and faster time) covers of classic songs.

Green Days cover of 'I fought the Law'

That is a good cover of that song, but I enjoy the Sex Pistols cover of it even more so...

And yes Richard Cheese is the man.... I recommend any of his songs, very entertaining... Basically turns any song into a lounge jazz...

EDIT: I also like the Weezer version of Uptown Girl... There are many good cover songs out there, just type in "cover song" on your favorite file-sharing progam, you will get results...

Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide
Guns n Roses - Sweet Child of Mine
Guns n Roses - Sympathy for the Devil
Nirvana - Lake of Fire
Sublime - Smoke Two Joints
Velvet Revolver - Negative Creep
Dynamite Hack - Boyz in the Hood
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Limp Bizkit - Faith
Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes
Kid Rock - Feel Like Makin Love
The Ataris - Boys of Summer

Those are all real good covers, although the last 4 on the list all may not like. I'm personally not a fan of Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, or the Ataris but those 4 songs are still decent covers.

WTF, Metal Tribute to ABBA ?

Mike Patton's cover of "Like a Prayer" is also pretty good for a laugh.

What Frank Zappa album are those cover's on Colonel32 ?

Absol-fucking-lutely best fucking cover I have ever heard (more of a remake)

a perfect circle - diary of a madman (remake of cure - love song)

I'm enticed to start a petition to get this released as a single (only ever performed live)  If you haven't heard this cover then go find it over p2p. It kicks ass.

Avril did Chop Suey?

Excuse me while I go jump off a bridge. Modern music industry, indeed.

I just heard New Found Glorys cover of 'warrants' called 'heaven isnt to far away'. I like it a lot, hopefully they might play it at reading festival this year, although I doubt it.

NFG did some great covers.  the titanic song, that thing you do....
dont get "I want it that way", just a little advice.

I would have to agree with the guy from before as well, Starting Line's "I'm Real" really excellent song
