No.  The Xbox will only boot with 4 or 8 chips installed.

You sure? I always thought that if you only installed six, it would boot perfectly fine, but it would still only show up 64mb

Yes, you're right.

The Xbox will not boot only if the added RAM is installed incorrectly.

I was sure that it freaked out if it didn't have either 64mb or 128mb...

Oh well, guess that's a good thing  laugh.gif

It will not boot with only 6 chips installed. I tried it on the last Ram upgrade I did and it triple boot fragged. Then I  installed the other 2 and it worked perfectly.

I hate it when a pad lifts, can be fixed, but its a bitch.

Just finished another 128mb board last night, let it run through the tests all night, seems perfectly stable.

If some of the pads have been pulled away or are broken off you want to make sure the trace isn't connected either end of the pad or it'll never work. Ive had a few boards sent into me where a whole pad has been removed and it connects either end of the pad to form a 'bridge'

I don't know how skilled you are, but make sure your joints aren't bridged on those repairs, one small short or dry joint on certain pins and it won't boot.

Good luck beerchug.gif

I use a reflow station to remove ram chips off dead motherboards for later use, but all the resoldering is done by hand. Usually it turns out pretty well (like shown in the pics at the bottom of the first page), but sometimes if it looks really messy I'll go back and reflow it with the hot air station.

I'll also use a hot air reworking station if I cannot find a bridge, that with some flux usually does it.
Of course judging by your pictures Maxx you know what flux is wink.gif
