Am I missing something? How do I reinstall the XBOX front plate to the drive?

And what wire does everyone recommend for the various solder points?

I had to take off the LG front plate (it clips on) and shave it down with an xacto knife to make it fit out the drive slot on the xboxes face plate.  Once I had done that, I secured the drive in place using some high quality double sided tape (Stick this to the black support bar that is under the dvdrom).  The tape is important as it stops the drive from moving around and being unable to open again.

Once the drive was in place properly I stuck the original xbox dvdrom front plate to the LG front place using good old trusty super glue.  Model glue would probably work just as well... it is intended to be used to glue two pieces of plastic together afterall.

Yes.  I received that "error".  I believe when they updated the firmware, they made the necessary logic changes to allow it to read original xbox discs, but didn't bother updating the firmware revision.

This would explain why the flasher believes that it's the same version.

Clear as mud?  Good!

Well we could release a new firmware with full xbox drive emulation.. but we wont cause of ciscoski's adapter...

PPLS like MrVxor that use our FW without contribuing to our team are stopping developpement...

I hate cloner's... Don't wait for us to code you a FW for the homemade adapter... do your own.

Note that Ciscoski's mod will cost you more at the end and you will need a PIC programmer as well !!!

We are now working on a new adapter, the next FW release will be for that new adapter and it won't work with the homemade.

BTW this is no news to me... it is 2 months old (2006/06/12) :  http://forum.xbox360...7587/page2.html

At the end Ciscoski and I have made peace and he is now in my MSN messenger contact list  ...

Yes , I and Patx signed a pace act.

My mod it's free but it's hard (??) to build without experience and instruments ...
You can use and mod it (but tell me the mod tongue.gif)

You can help patx buying his adapter ...
The 8164 firmware its him and his team creation and for this must contribuite ...

Bye

@gadget78

My project use a 16f628 not a 84 . If you whant use 84 you must add a osc circuite wink.gif

True, to a point. If one has a programmer already or the time to build one, and a stock of PIC chips (if needed), one could do it on their own for just time.

If one went and bought your board, they are essentially paying someone else to do a level of grunt work, albeit work that many are not entirely capable of.

It's not that I have anything against modchip developers (I kinda do, but I know to keep it stifled), but I'd sooner DIY, as I have more time and skill than money.

FWIW, I do have an 8163B drive in my upstairs PC I could mod for Xbox, I just won't right now, as the stock DVD works fine.

Shall I assume that if I've ordered two of these and two 8164's for a couple of my friends (who don't have modded boxes... and won't let me mod them) that I've just wasted my money on your current adapters?  From all of your comments/updates so far I've been under the understand that you will be releasing a firmware that will work with unmodded xboxes.

I suppose I can pull out my original xbox drive from my soft modded xbox and then have a second 8164 for myself, but I'll still be out the cost of one of the 8164's and the chip in the end.

Don't get me wrong Patx.  I do trully appreciate what you've done, and I'm doing my best to answer peoples (usually) simple questions relating to the adapter... I'm just a little torn at the moment...

OK guys i will explain how it works...

1-you make an original product
2-support your product by RELEASING TO THE COMMUNITY

I did the product, i released the firmware...I did my part !!!

For those who bought the adapter, I am sorry but our coder gets 1$ on each adapter sold and he doesn't want to code for the actual adapter anymore cause of ciscoski's one. I can't do nothing about it as I am not skilled enough to code it my self... You have to undestand that we are still developping and there is an evolution in our work... the first chip i installed to my xbox had a big ugly switch on back of my xbox... at some point the chip was old and I changed it for a next generation...this is called evolution... I was please with what i had done with the first  chip and i was also pleased with the new one that was much more effecive... I was also pleased to contribute to a team that still exist and release today... I wonder if some one released their shcematic all over the net back then if they still exist today ?!??

For those who think i did it to get rich ...

I make a big 3$ on each adapter sold at reseller price,I have sold 570 till now... WOW about 1000 hours work for 1710$ !!! I will probably get rich soon lollll...

The money is use for developpement... our main goal is the x360 an we are close...

Now we see that the community is far more interested in using our work for free than to contribute. You guys don't want to pay 20$ BUT WANT THE SUPPORT , you want it all for free !!! Well do your homework and code your own... don't ask our team to do it for you...

I am not happy with it either... I have ordered a new batch of 1000 units... I have worked hard with manfacturer  to reduce costs to have a better price... I have worked on a solderles version of the actual adapter, it is ready for production... now what do I do with all this ?!

IN FACT RELEASING THIS SCHEMATIC DOESN'T CONTRIBUTE TO THE SCENE AT ALL IT STOPS THE ONLY SKILLED TEAM WORKING ON THIS PROJECT !!!

Pat, this is all fine and well, and I have no problem paying $20 for the support, but I've emailed the site 4 times in the past 2 months and can't get two simple questions answered (How do I put the old XBox faceplate on and what awg wire is recommended for what points).

Is this ridiculous of me to ask?

Does this also mean the fixed firmware will never be released? I am waiting for it to come out before I put my XBox back together because nothing is more annoying than opening and reopening your xbox, especially just to flash the DVD drive.

This has been awnsered many many times now !!! What i mean by support is RELEASES... not holding your hand while install.

This chip has been made for modchips installers not for noobs...

Read on the drive... it is written :

5v/12v »»» 0.9A/1.4A

This means that 30 awg wire is far enough on all points for this mod.

To install in the xbox and  put the face plate do as explained in the 8163 tutorial.

To have full xbox drive emulation we have to handle the challenge responce (C/R) protocol ( type0 should be enough for xbox1) , we worked on a way to handle the (C/R) from our adapter as it is much easier to code this way. Were at tesing DATA comunication between MN103 and our adapter now... As soon as we succed we will have a new adapter with only 1 or 2 wire to solder that will full emulate the xbox drive.

For the x360, we will have to add type1,3 & type5,7 (C/R) to our code and make a blocker on the SATA adapter to handle the X360<>drive authentification (KEY)... we have tested 8 different SATA adater chipset before we find one working with the 8164... most of these adapters hangs the drive completly.

We could code a FW for the actual adapter but this is not our priority now... we will try to fix the bugs that ppls have with some originals titles...

That doesn't really help me when I looked all over your website and don't see a 8163 tutorial anywhere. Maybe it would make sense to have it on the websites manual so people wouldn't have to ask you "stupid questions" and "hold our hand during installs" no?

i can apprieciate what ya saying by that, you have had to outlay alot of money for the PCB to be designed and made, and i can also see you point in that you are not the person who codes, and that it is a seperate person who is maybe not on the same lines/thoughts as you ...
and of course you want to sell all that stock that you have brought in and make money to get more stock and more devolopment etc etc

BUT i think u are under-estimating the DIY solution thats been brought to peoples attention, look at the number of people who HAVE brought you adapter, and also look at the number of people who are having problems with this MUCH MUCH MUCH easier soloution ! ..
do u honestly think that this DIY solution is any kind of threat to yours ! yours is like making a cup of tea to the DIY solution ! (just look at the above posts!)
just like 'cheapmods' tsop flashing, and softmods  is/was/will never be a threat to the retail chips,
or the retail 'patch' mods for the 360 compared to the threat of the free firmware 'updating'
so yes u may loose a few sales to the DIY but you could say that these same people would/could of just used the exsiting 8163 and not just brought a new drive and your adapter smile.gif
after all, the people who do 'make there own' maybe at more of a place to actually help you smile.gif

so you see, all that you are doing by stopping more firmware support for already exsisting customers , and future customer of yours, is going to be detrimental and make you look like the bad guy, as looks like wrongly they have sad.gif  people int gonna buy these if they are going to be quickly outdated and NEVER really be a true 'replacment' for xbox (the non modded console crew) i think once you get that in the firmware you work will be done smile.gif

hopefully you can see both sides of the fence, and see that DIY is no 'real' threat to yours, Mick ....

About a month ago i received an email from a guy in indonesia, he was saying

"what is your price for 500 units ?!?

I can built this adapter for 4$ here "

and he gave me the ciscoski tutorial link...

SO basicly he was saying :

Sell me your adapter at cost price or i will produce mine from these schematic and use your developements to sell it !!!
I made him a very good price for 500 units and he never awnsered... I guess all he wanted to know is what was my lowest price.

On the french forum, the support from user is far much better, they knew about the homemade adapter months ago and they continued support us... There is no thread anywhere flaming us for the prices, there is no thread about how to use our work without contributing.

I have asked for bugs report and no one seem to have bugs with originals...I sell 40% of my stock in France over 200 sold. Our FW unlocks xbox disk and change the Starting PSN... the bugs reported here is probably not caused by our FW... try to read the disk on your PC with Altus.... Some ppls had problem with the drive installed in TSOP flashed consoles...the same drive in 1.4 xecuter modded xbox works 100%.

Looking at the comments so far I wonder wich team the english community will support... the developpers or the cloners...
